Repent to Dubai?

I think McPeek would be making a big mistake if he were to take Repent to Dubai as a prep for the Derby. The trip takes too much out of a horse. Anybody else?

Dubai or no Dubai, I don\'t think the horse is much and would be a reach to win the Derby anyway.

I don\'t agree with the generalization that a trip to Dubai takes too much out of a horse. If he goes to Dubai it will be to try and win a 2 million dollar race at a distance the Trainer and owners belive may be a good fit over a surface that was completely renovated about 4 years ago to closely match Churchill.  If you want to find out if your horse will be competitive going 10 furlongs against a full field of classy horses what better way to find out?  Last years UAE Derby turned into a key international race with several runners coming back to win major stakes in the US and Europe. My opinion is so far I have not been impressed with any US based runner and this year Godolphin has the best opportunity yet to seriously contend For the Derby-just don\'t know who yet.  Maybe Dubai Destination.  Too bad he wasen\'t one of the horses in the futures pool instead of King\'s Consul but I have a nice wager in pool one on King\'s Consul and Tempara along with Fonz\'s who has done nothing to indicate he will not improve.

I agree with you Phil about the trip and that no U.S. colts have been impressive so far.

Godolphin clearly has the best-bred youngsters. Many of them are bred for the stretchout to longer distances.

Unfortunately, I don\'t think some of their best candidates raced enough last year (if at all).

BUT, Suroor has proven he can big performances out of their stock off the layoff. I am anxiously awaiting their arrival this year.

Hmmmmmmmmm.Correct me if I\'m mistaken, but I seem to recall Cigar, Soul of The Matter, Silver Charm and the sprinter Caller (forgot last name) not winning again after the trip to Dubai.

Agree that this 3 yo crop stinks and am not sold on Repent, but other than the 2yo champ (who looks like he won\'t be ready), I don\'t see any other horse with a prayer at this juncture. Thanks for the input.

Just saw bloodhorse article. Trip to Dubai is off. Louisiana derby instead.Good idea.

Ecton Park another one who reacted to trip over there.

Still not sold on Repent. Would like to see if he can change leads without snapping one off.
