In the 5th race Sat @Bel Stock Fund graduated into the realm of winners. An event which has preserved Nationalore\'s place in the record books

Nationalore, was owned and trained by Myung Kwon Cho, was winless in 26 starts, but had earned $318,227. He finished third in the 1997 Breeders\' Cup Juvenile at Hollywood Park and was ninth in the 1998 Kentucky Derby.

Stock Funds earnings were less than 50% of Nationalores but the mare was headed in the right direction prior to today. She battled an extreme case of seconditis for the last two years and overall running 2nd in 11 of her 22 races and six of her last seven this year as her illness worsened.

Oddly enough she went off @2/1 today? Who would take that price? No need to answer that! Just when appearances were suggesting the connections may not want to win and rather make a career of NY statebred MSW races, she loses her folk heroine status. Congratulations, I guess, to Carlos Martin and the connections of Stock Fund.

Here comes a redboard, Richiebee style, meaning I didn\'t cash. When Stock Fund began his winning move, shouts of \"Just please hang one more time!\" echoed throughout Living Room Downs. Of course I was alive in the Pick 5 (and actually backed it up with a small win bet) with the second place finisher, Royal Jest, a King Cugat firster who went off at 55/1. Owner/trainer/breeder Richard Lugovich usually has his firsters prepared to run. I think Lugovich (who has only started 13 horses this year) used to be based at Penn National, now based at Fair Hill, where Royal Jest had been working well.

My favorite NYRA \"hanger\" of all time was Diane Suzanne, a foal of 1986, who lost 32 straight races to begin her career before breaking her maiden (by 18 lengths!) on opening day of the Fall meet at Belmont in 1990. Diane Suzanne finished with a lifetime record of 53 starts, 2 wins, 10 seconds and 6 thirds, earning $133,000.

Diane Suzanne\'s full brother, foaled in 1985, started 99 times with 18 seconds and 16 thirds. The 1985 foal was named Fourstardave, and he also won 21 races, including the never to be duplicated feat of winning a race at the Spa for 8 straight years, earning in excess of $1.6 million. Diane Suzanne had another full brother, foaled in 1988: Millionaire Fourstars Allstar, who started 59 times with 14 wins, 14 seconds and 9 thirds.

Diane Suzanne and her two Fourstar brothers were by the Northern Dancer stallion Compliance, out of the mare Broadway Joan. All three were trained by Leo O\'Brien. Richard Bomze, who owned Diane Suzanne and the Fourstars, purchased Broadway Joan for $2,500 at a sale held in the paddock at Belmont Park.

Yeah, I know, it was a long time ago, but, gee, our old LaSalle ran great...

Richie, if not for stuff that happened a long time ago I\'d have next to nothing to talk about. It must be noted that Fourstars Allstar did something that no other American-based horse ever did: he won a European classic race, the Irish 2000 Guineas.

Niall

True story I was in the paddock for this race as my friends had a horse and we talked with Phil Teator for a min. Nice guy, wish him luck. Anyway, he said his horse could run. Didnt use and we all had that wtf look after the race. Fast forward to Sunday and we see him on another King Cugat for the same connections. I decide he is worth $20 bucks and was going to bet him to win at 14-1 but decided to get brilliant and wheel him up and down. My exacta comes back at $331 however he drifts to 22-1. So I\'m out $130 but still a winner !!

Boscar Obarra

Teator can ride. For those that don\'t know, he was an Eclipse awarded apprentice. in the early 90\'s.  I assume he\'s learned some since them.

The connections did have the good taste to wait for the highest NYRA purse of the year for the condition before grabbing all the gusto . . .
