Can we have a triple crown winner this year?

I think we have a few horses that could make a big move forward?

I don\'t believe so for this reason.  One of the horses who ran -2 already is going to win the Derby.  Eventually that -2 combined with 3 races in 5 weeks is going to take its toll. He either doesn\'t make it to the Belmont, or worst case scenario he ends up like Big Brown if he wins the Preakness & gets to the Belmont starting gate, best case he ends up like Smarty Jones and battles the whole Belmont.

Orb is one I like

The other is Normandy Invasion, it is time for him to learn how to win with the help of the jockey

Toppled,

Good points.

I obviously agree that one of the 2 negatives will win the derby but if it\'s lucky that wins, the argument for him for the triple crown would be that he may have had enough time to recover from the 2 negative such that he isn\'t feelimg the effects like he might have if the number had been recent (ie orb) or if he hadn\'t been raced so relatively frequently since (ie verazano). If plesa wins this, he\'s a genius in my mind for giving the horse the right spacing to recover from the huge efforts.

I like orb alot more and i really wish lucky\'s final work hadnt been in 53 but he\'s obviously got a shot.

Did anybody actually see the Lucky work? Calder Clockers control those Baby Races down there. Kirk Ziadie and The Jockeys the rest....

Departing will be tough if he runs

Departing is nowhere near Orb\'s league.

I\'m beginning to rethink whether Orb can win the Triple Crown. Maybe it\'s the euphoria of cashing big on Derby Day, but if I want to be optimistic that Orb can do it, I can look back to 1989.  Shug was able to hold Easy Goer together throughout the triple crown series.  My biggest fear against a triple crown was the -2 Orb ran in Florida.  However, the horse with the -2 is trained by a man who has a track record of keeping his horse sound throughout the entire 5 week series. Easy Goer would have won the triple crown except for one reason-there was one 3yo horse in the USA who was better than him.  Even though Sunday Silence was better (3 for 4 vs Easy Goer), Easy Goer was the fitter horse by the 3rd leg of the triple crown.  I believe the fact that Easy Goer did not show any negative effects of a grueling Preakness bodes well for Orb\'s chances.  I just don\'t think there is a horse lurking in the background who at this stage of their careers can mount a serious challenge to Orb in the next 5 weeks.

This race wil have zero bearing on the next race. Race flow will be different.Chaotic result (Golden Soul?????) set up by meatball brain ride from Mikey.

God Luck,

Really?  Golden Soul is somewhere NEAR Orb\'s league and Departing beat him in the Louisiana Derby.

For what it is worth, Orb aside, the La Derby has to be revisited as a key race in this year\'s preps.  No?

TreadHead

Orb did run 80 feet further than Golden Soul, so margin of victory could have been more than 10 lengths, not exactly anywhere near his league.  My Lute has a much stronger argument only running 20 feet fewer.
