Ellen McClain, the chief operating officer and president of the New York Racing Association, announced at the association's full board meeting Friday in Manhattan that she has submitted her resignation but will stay on during a "transitional period" as the association searches for a chief executive.

Also with a shortage of horses from which to pull from - field size is down to 6.9 per race from 7.9 last winter, the NYRA board agreed to authorize a four-day race week to replace its current five-day week. It was unclear when the four-day week would begin, and needs legislative approval.
