Did anyone else see the Chad Brown interview on Saturday before the Silver Timber race?

He said about 5 times before the race how disappointed he was in the weight assignments and how he thought that at equal weights, the horse would be great and then he reiterated after ST won that at equal weights in the Breeders Cup that ST would be deadly.

Can someone please let him know that at 5.5f, that weight doesn\'t mean as much as at longer distances?

He sounded silly whining about the weights in a 5.5f race.  You might have thought that it was the BC Marathon at 1 3/4 the way he was talking about a few pounds.

I don\'t know the exact translation of that weight at that distance but what are we talking about, maybe 0.5 pts in the TG scale? To hear him talk about it, it was the only thing that was going to matter in the race.

Covelj70,

 \"5 lbs in weight= 1 point at all distances\".

This is verbatim from \"the basics\" of thorograph.

Not finding faults,only clarifying.

with respect,

Flighted,

Thanks very much for the clarification.

That\'s not intuitive to me that it\'s not worth more the further you go but then again, there\'s alot of stuff that\'s not intuitive to me :)

Thanks again.

TGJB

Correct. 5 pounds is a point at all distances, a point = more in lengths the further they go.

A path on a turn is a length at all distances.

Cove,

You may be better off. Last friday I attempted to handicap from the DRF and
a bit of intuition.I redboarded the day and realized I cost myself a wheelbarrow
of cash.

What should I have seen in the TG charts for this race that would have suggested that Silver Timber would move forward and win while Chamberland Bridge would regress?

dannyboy135

I don\'t think Chamberlin bridge regressed.  He just got a horrible trip and was left standing flat footed at the break.  I don\'t know what the number will look like but he must have been 6 wide

Flighted Iron

JB,

While we\'re here,is 1 length at 5.5 furlongs the same as 6 furlongs(.8)?

thanks,

Thanks for trying to clarify Flighted,

bottom-line, how many lengths does a horse give up when carrying 5 pounds 5.5f.  I understand now (thanks for the clarification) that 5 pounds = 1 pt even at 5.5f but that 1 point at 5.5f equates to fewer lengths lost than 5 pounds at 1 mile (or longer).

So, working through all of the semantics (which are important), how many legnths (or what percentage of 1 length) did Silver Timber give up by giving up those 5 lbs last Sat?

Thanks all

Flighted Iron

Cove,

My question for JB is for redboarding purposes.Lets say the uniform is
5 lengths. How many TG points are deducted from these distances? Please mind I\'m
not referencing lbs.

5.5
6
6.5
7
7.5
8
8.5
9
9.5
10

Out of the office yesterday playing some truly awful golf. A point is worth roughly a length at 5f, sliding up to roughly 2 lengths at 1 1/4.

Must be a helluva foursome:  Jerry, Chuckles, Sekrah and Nyc.

Flighted Iron

JB,

do you happen to suffer from \"paralysis by analysis\"?

TGJB

Doubt it. In fact, if I had ever taken a lesson it could only have helped.

Considering the forum I\'d rather not get jacked up on golf, however if you
happen to give a smidgen of a \"tinkers damn\" about playing better there is a good read in \"The mental game of golf\" by Patrick J. Cohn, PH.D.
