Just thought you would find these quotes from the Beyer Preakness article in todays DRF a little interesting.

\"Horseplayers who call themselves trip handicappers know that winners are often determined by the way a race develops....by the fact that some horses are forced to run wide on the turns while others save ground\".

\"With his outside post position(Funny Cide) at Pimlico, he is apt to have a slightly more difficult trip than Peace Rules. These factors ought to be worth more than two lengths.\"

Why don\'t Beyer, Crist and all the rest admit it--\"The Sheets Rule\". What\'s this trip garbage he has come with.

PS-I thought Jerry\'s analysis was right on, I feel several big scores coming at Pimlico tomorrow.

Good Luck Everybody !

\"trip handicapping\" is a valuable tool. the fact that there were no super speed horses in the derby, eg balto star or old trieste in recent runnings, certainly compromised the abilty of stretch runners in this most recent derby. this observation allowed many to throw out horses such as ats (although i would have thrown him out for other reasons, however was surprised by his 4th place finish). Trip handicapping dictated that just those same horses that finished 1-2-3 would excel.  anyway, there was a great deal of pre-derby talk in this forum (with links to courier journal, blood horse and crist)about epo.  comments please on nyra\'s announcement on 5/15/03 that all belmont stakes starters will be tested prior to the race and security will be tight.  as crist mentioned in regards to another venue, since epo is not illegal, does this mean nyra will allow the horses to start but notify the public?

Beyer is such a retard. It\'s possible Funny will cover 2 lengths more ground than some horses but if all things go well on the break he wont cover 2 lengths more ground than Peace Rules. He\'s much more likely to tuck in behind in the gap thats gonna develop between the speed makers and ease seekers. Why is that man so incompetent?  If he wins, Beyer will later write he fell into another dream trip. :)  Andy, heres a little clue for you. Tactical Speed horses MAKE their trips.
