Being that triple crown mania is about to launch into hi-gear this weekend (I will be working like a mule and will miss it all), I thought I'd post a few links down memory lane. Below are Whitney Tower's Sports Illustrated articles from the 1973 Triple Crown. The first is his Derby post race story, the Second his Belmont recap. The Sports Illustrated Vault is a really neat deal. The last link is to the article by Bill Nack talking about how Big Red\'s heart was twice the size of a normal equine heart. Awesome stuff. Enjoy!

Thanks, Unc.

Still possibly the greatest single year ever by a thoroughbred-- the Triple
Crown, with the CD and Bel track records, a world record on the turf which
stood for nearly 20 years, HOY, Champion 3YO, Champion Turf Horse.
