Perhaps this is not the right place to post a message like this, and if so, my apologies to the host.

Richard Matlow announced his retirement from training last week.  Last year, Matlow was diagnosed with ALS and the toll that disease has taken on his body is obvious to all.  Training horses – a very physical occupation – became just too much for him.

For those who follow the Southern California circuit, you know that Matlow has been for decades a very effective trainer, and those who follow him and his stable have shown a flat profit for some period of time, a fact confirmed by the TG trainer profiles.

I probably have already written more about him than he would want, so I will conclude.  Richard Matlow is a very decent man, a very good trainer who did it the right way, and the single best judge of conformation I have ever known.  Those who have known him wish him all the best in his battle with ALS.

The guy\'s eye for a horse is legendary. I wish him the best of luck.
