Im-poss-ible

I would say if I have made selections on this board in 100 races over the years,
my strike rate is...embarrassing.

Recently, there have been some small victories. I mentioned a Malcolm Pierce
turfer running at the Fair Grounds as a decent looking sort after he won a
lower level allowance race; he came back and won at odds of 4/1. I am hoping
that Pierce has some confidence in this son of Seeking the Gold and takes a
shot with him in the big FG turf race coming up in a couple of weeks at odds
which should be slightly higher given his lack of graded stake experience.

As much as I try to avoid favorites, I did give out \"Man On Wire\" as 3/5 to win
the \"Oscar\" for best documentary.

I will not use this space to try to describe how well constructed this 94 minute
film is, how well the footage is spliced together, how uplifting the Michael
Nyman/ Pascal Roge soundtrack is, how you might be channeling Jack Buck when you
say \"I cant believe what I just saw\" after watching Mr Petit cross between the
towers of Notre Dame Cathedral, the Sydney Harbor Bridge and finally the Twin
Towers of the World Trade Center, pausing only to kneel or lie down or juggle
while on his wire.

Maybe my affection for this film has something to do with the 10 years I spent
working at One World Trade Center between 1986- 1996.

There is one scene which seems particularly pertinent given the rather tenuous
current state of our Nation, and to a much less significant extent, Horse
Racing.

Petit has gathered his co-conspirators at the base of the Towers a few months
before his tight rope walk; for a few members of the crew, they are looking at
the Towers for the first time.

Looking up, Petit recalls in his French accent saying (and drawing out the word
for emphasis) \"Im-poss-ible. Lets get to work.\"
