The "Losing" Ticket

I saw on the Thoroughbred Times site that the losing ticket purchased by the hacker from old hilltop went \"All-All-Starine-WhyWhyWhy-Denon-War Emblem\".

Does this ticket tell us anything about the other ticket?

It seems obvious that the losing ticket is just a dodge - a sacraficial lamb offered up to add a touch of verisimilitude to an otherwise unbelievable play.

But what about Starine being a single on both tickets? If this sham is indeed a fraud, would it make sense that he would past-post the third leg on this ticket as well? So he can say afterwards \"I really, really, really liked Starine\"? Or, did he just get lucky on that one?

And what about the fourth leg? Did he want to change that one too but ran out of time? Or, was having two of the top juvenile choices singled on different cards (after Vindication won and was past-posted) fine and dandy on its own?

Do the singles in the 5th and 6th legs tell us anything? Besides the fact that you would not have wanted any part of that ticket? Pardon my redboarding.

One last thing. I find it interesting that when discussing this story with people who have a casual interest in racing ... they all seem to want to believe that it\'s legit. They look right through the preposterous premise, and think it is sour grapes on my part since I didn\'t have Volponi and am now learning to love crochet. Is anyone else seeing this latest version of the sympathy-with-Rose-Ruiz-syndrome? The \"Yeah, I could win the Boston Marathon if I got into shape\" howler?

I guess people are capable of believing some pretty funny things.

cheapclaimer

There seems to be some evidence that Mr Davis was also involved in winning a couple of Saratoga Pik 6 carryovers. The plot thickens.

Mr Davis said \"he was annoyed by the delay in getting paid\" How many of us would be annoyed? Most folks would be screaming bloody murder. It just gets curioser and curioser..........................

Davis just moved to Baltimore, yet the woman who answered the phone at his listed residence indicated that he doesn\'t live there anymore. So instead of basking in the glory of hitting one of the most difficult pk6s ever, Davis goes into hiding. Hegarty is asking the right questions, like how exactly is the info on live bets transmitted after the 4th leg & what controls are in place to prevent manipulation, but Amtote & Autotote won\'t give him any answers. Hopefully, today Hegerty will start thinking about the identities of the individuals who actually make & supervise the transfers & any links between Davis & the single ticket pk6 scores at Sar on 8/4 & 8/17. At least that\'s the advice I plan to give him if I can figure out how to email him on the drf website.

Bob: Most of my friends who have a casual interest in racing, including one who sat next to me at the BC, didn\'t even know there was a question about the wager. However, one of my friends who is in charge of computer security at a bank & who knows virtually nothing about racing, apparently knows quite a bit about about the matter. I hope to speak to him today & will report back if he has any interesting insights into the matter.

Why do I have this feeling Mr. Davis will be sharing an espresso with Jimmy Hoffa in the great hereafter in the not too distant future?

Still can\'t believe the system actuall worked like that (delayed sending of the selections)

Only a moron or a crook would devise such a scheme,

   These guys were probably both.

I\'ll weigh in on the subject about past posting at my local betting venue.

Seems on simulcast wagers the betting was/is (story is about 2 years old) controlled by a phone/data line for each track signal.
An employee hangs up an open phone line at post time to cut off betting from that simulcast location.
Seems this employee was leaving the job and set up a pastposting scheme. He would \'accidentally\' leave the phone off the hook until 7 seconds after the race ended. This gives his cronies the ability to bet via tiny tims after the race is over. Two fellas manned the monitors and two the tiny tims....punched in exactas and tris on a couple of races. Not $12 pick 6\'s but enough to make a nice payday.
Actually called a race wrong and lost so they did one more.
Cleared some 7m to 10m from what I was told.

From my perspective, this probably can be done. It is probably still being done.

Not a pretty picture.

For the record, I was not there when it happened and would not know the day or track.
I know a name or two of alleged participants and have it on very reliable source that it did happen.

If racetracks had any respect for their patrons, they would REFUSE any bet not posted within one second of the gate opening.

Period.

They are just greedy bastards.

\"Although the values of pick six bets are transmitted instantly into the merged pools, the information about which horses are used in each bet is not transmitted until after the fourth race, to minimize traffic on the tote network.\"

And the first four races were singles.
