Unbridled's Numbers

I know that this is going back quite some time, but does anybody recall Unbridled\'s numbers in his last few races?  I recall that after the Belmont he was rested, had a prep or two, then won the B.C. Classic.

Given that SS has the same trainer, it would be interesting to know how Unbridled\'s B.C. Classic number compared to his Derby and B.C. prep numbers.

Thanks.

Compare the two Ky Derbys - Unbridled ran wide and finished in faster time than SS, who skimmed the rail most of the way. Unbridled got a positive \'4\', while SS got a negative \'2\' and change.

Ragozin has the figures about the same. Beyer just this year referred to Unbridled\'s performance as \"one of the fastest and most impressive Derby performances ever.\"

I\'d solve this riddle before going any further.

Michael-- not again.

David-- the sheets for horses that raced before 1994, when we computerized, are in a storage room somewhere. Alan will be back in tomorrow, he might be able to help you.

But personally, I don\'t think it would tell you much about SS-- lots of variables.

ok, I\'m out.

be back this w/e. some more great racing.

Thanks for checking, Jerry.

My curiosity is more about the trainer and how he is bringing SS up to the race.

You are right that there are a lot of variables and this is only one.  Unbridled did not have the same number pattern as SS, but Nafzger showed an uncanny ability to get him to run his best two races on the biggest two days.  SS has shown a similar propensity so far.  He did not appear to be cranked for the KY Cup, nor was Unbridled for his BC Classic Prep.

D,

Cannot help you on the numbers, but I do like the direction you\'re heading.
Think Nafzger\'s just been gearing his big boy up for the Classic?

I realize this is not a super-scientific post or insight, but I\'ve followed Nafzger closely for years and can assure you that he hardly ever cranks a horse (of any quality) without prep races.

\"Third off the layoff\" is an angle he could have written himself.  The best bet I made on him was an allowance NW1 last season that came out of a bad losing race.  The losing race was the second off a layoff around 2 turns at Turfway and he traveled wide all the way.  The next race and win was the same type of race at Churchill and the horse paid 17-1 winning by open lengths.

Typical Nafzger.  The Breeders Cup is well within reach this year, on this basis.

David,

I happen to have his sheet. I\'m moving at the end of the month and i\'m going through my stuff to see what i want to keep and what i have to throw out. UNBRIDLED\'S sheet i\'m going to keep.

I\'ve scanned the sheet in PDF format, but I don\'t know how to post it to the board. It\'s located in \"my control center\" if Jerry wants to get it and post it. I can e-mail it to you if I had your e-mail address.

My question is, no matter how accurate the data, how did we ever get anybody to buy something that looked like that. Sheesh.
