Gelt for Geldings

While reading my TG for FG on Sat.\'s R4, I suddenly heard the announcer say \"Mithal is a gelding\"...for me that\'s an automatic bet ...he paid $25.  In R7 he announces \"Perfect Harmony is a gelding\" ..I was a little unsure about this one since his last race was rather recent, but I bet him anyway...he paid $18. Maybe TG should include this data in their graph code key.

Joe,

1st time gelding is an angle that many bettors like. It\'s rather amazing that the tracks often have difficulty getting this important info to the public. It is the ultimate equipment change as noted by Barry Irwin and many horny rogue type runners have improved sharply afterwards.

Equibase furnishes most if not all data to fig makers and they can only put down what they know about and in this case it would be after the fact.I think it may be useful in identifying why a horse suddenly improved if included in TG.

That the date a horse first appeared as a gelding on the track is not included in past performances is as good of an example as any to me, of the complete contempt the industry has for the bettor.

DRF has a monopoly of sorts. I like Steve Crist but he is forgetting the players. Gelding info, works at the training sale, et al is available but not included in  the daily DRF.

Now they market formulator, drf plus, etc to make us pay for things that should be included in the basic product.

Amen.  The \"Bible\" is now charging for extra commandments; the ones, or so the marketing logic goes, that will get the rich through the eyes of the needle.

OTOH, as demonstrated by Josephus, when the crowd doesn\'t know a horse is first time gelding (or as I like to say, lower blinkers off), the ROI is just grand. It takes a lot of sleuthing to ferret out this information sometimes, e.g. looking at prior race PPs, results, time off, workout gaps, etc, to determine if a horse is likely FTG today. There are races where you can only guess if the horse is FTG today since the info is just not sufficient to say for sure. So, playing by the current rules, good profits are to be had if you do the digging and determine a horse is FTG. Like Josephus, this is an automatic play for me. Another similar category for me is first race after myectomy--can you say Mecke in the 1996 Arlington Million?

This \"neo castrati\" angle looks interesting. Does anyone have any info on the win %, impact value and R.O.I. stats on these horses ?

Bobphilo,

I can only provide you with info from my own records. The ROI is enormous, second only to first time turf for me. Not scientific, I know, but I keep my own meticulous records and it is truly powerful. That\'s why it\'s an automatic bet for me. Perhaps TG can ferret out more verifiable ROI stats from their enormous database.

Thanks lfe,

I\'m sure the advantage comes from the fact that the information is hard to come by. The problem, as well, seems to be that the information is hard to come by.
I\'ll keep my eyes posted in the future.
