But is There a Place to Sit?

Good news about the increased purses at Gulfstream for the 2007 meet. Good news about the 1,600 slot machines installed or soon-to-be-installed at Gulfstream on a year round basis.

But is there a place for the racing fan to go and sit and watch live racing. And we are not talking about some outdoor bench/table loaded with White Pidgeon Crap to stick your racing form to. Or your own rear end for that matter.

Or some unintended Outdoor Tanning Bed to literally roast the day away in while paying a visit to GP.

How about a real fan friendly live racing facility?

Or is that just too much to ask?

less covered, outdoor seats, but the best thoroughbreds in the world, and purses doubling by \'08.

the fifty million outdoor, covered seat model at Bel really hasn\'t been too successful recently. what\'s it, 90% empty on the average day? every other race NY breds? just too much new gaming competition from other sources it seems.

i\'m taking a positive view on the new GP. i prefer the atmosphere at Dmr, Sar, or Kee, but one racino with great racing is just fine with me.

Same great seating as last year. Just too many cheap mother#&*&#*s not willing to pay to use them.

Careful there Frank, hanging around with Jerry so much has begun to rub off on you.

Build a 5,000 seat covered bleacher with a good view. Have a couple of mutual clerks in the back, a simulcast wall or two and a bunch of self-wagering machines. Charge $5 bucks for a seat and I\'m there. Charge even more on the bigger days.

I\'ve been to GP twice in the last two years. It was a cattle roping bull riding facility two years ago. And last year a One Star Restaurant stuck next to a race track.

Stronach has been so focused on building an entertainment center with rock concerts, combo bands, comedy clubs, disco rooms, sports books, slots cards and dice, food buffets that he forgot to build a live racing facility.

And the friction rooms, but rumor has it they\'re next........

Last year I went to GP about 50 times. The first day I showed up I sat in clubhouse north, a dark racebook similar to Vegas race & sportsbooks. Not for me. I hated it. My friends who think free food tastes better than anything paid for love it in there and stayed all winter.

I found the dining room upstairs with a TV on each table that also serves as a betting window. Many doors from the dining room lead to a grandstand with a perfect view of great live racing. And on beautiful days I just sat outside.

GP has something for everybody, why be concerned with what\'s going on in other parts of the facility.
