First ever twilight card at the Spa Friday. Post time, 3:00 PM. Post time final race, 7:17 PM. Sunset 7:29.

A couple loose horses, some dont wanna load bad actors at the gate, maybe a stalled tractor, and you will be enjoying the first night race at the Spa, but not necessarily seeing it. I guess this is OK though, because it seems like a couple of years the BC Classic has been run in the gloaming, and if the country\'s most important race can be run in near darkness, I guess you can run 12 maidens on the grass \"at twilights last gleaming\".

I am not a detractor of NYRA (as Miff says, its not NYRA\'s fault that they have had to compete with the OTB patronage mill all these years), but the twilight experiment should have been conducted a month ago... when there was more daylight.

Would like to thank TG and Joe Madigan of Wilton, NY (elevation 328 feet) for very thorough and accurate Saratoga weather forecasts throughout the meet. A great idea and a great handicapping tool. Unfortunately Joe is calling for a chance of rain in excess of 50% for each of Saturday, Sunday and Monday, but you can\'t shoot the messenger.

Yep. AccuWeather also says that there is the likelihood of rain all 3 days. One glimmer of hope is that the weather models are starting to tilt towards a more western movement which may keep the rain up there on the light side.

Saturday\'s Forego & Woodward look awesome. Both excellent candidates for ROTW>

Good Luck,
Joe B.

Weather is suppose to be good Sunday . Like 1st lasix was saying - go pull down few a scores , live it up and  have fun ,
it\'s the end of the summer ...

*If it gets too dark for racing during the twightlight card , they can  fit the horse\'s with some new equipment -
coal miner style flashlights straped around their coconut  ...

Twilight racing at any track is a cry for more business. Now Saratoga? What does that tell ya?

marcus

It\'s telling me pretty much the same as your saying and as richiebee\'s post is telling me  when he comments on the No - Lights at Sar and the Initiating of Twilight Racing just now instead of eariler in the season when there would have been sufficiant light untill 9:30 pm .  So I guess what I\'m hearing is that : Somebody involved with some of these decisions on the Management side has got a \" Wooden Head \" ...

* Hey - How \'bout the Spinaway for ROTW this time TG ? lots nominies -fillies ?

Racing on Friday at 3pm is a mistake. The spa is not Belmont in the spring, nor should it be messed with by NYRA any more than it it has been.

My vote is for the twilight card, but agree they should do it in July; as a 25+ year antendee of opening week, Friday twilight may attract the weekend warriors to an extra day of racing, and for regulars like me I could have lunch in town, etc...hope it works out!
