\"He has won races without blinkers before; it\'s certainly an option to take them off,\'\' Pletcher said.

Pletcher said he felt Flower Alley didn\'t relax because of the configuration of Belmont Park, where 1 1/4-mile races start in the middle of the clubhouse turn. At most tracks, a 1 1/4-mile race is run around two turns.

\"When you don\'t have that turn to run into, you stay on the bridle a little more,\'\' Pletcher said in theorizing why Flower Alley was rank. \"It\'s essentially a one-turn race.\'\'

I don\'t know, he ran a very similar race in the Jim Dandy, battling right on the fractions and then pulling away. JCGC day he appeared to do the same but for chucking it. He tried. His personal battle with Imperialism is a thing to behold. He gets passed by the older horse but then nips him in the very end. Its really hard to believe the turn unglued Flower Alley.

Sun King was a horse whose Pennsylvania Derby moved him up and he ran a more energy conserving race Saturday. King beat Alley by five lengths, but on Tgraph numbers was only 3 lengths inferior going in. Maybe the results aren\'t quite as far out of line as they appear.

On a review basis, that was an extremely tough track to get a handle upon. That Beldame looks very fast compared to the Gold Cup despite only being run 80 minutes prior. I\'d be very interested to know if Tgraph noted any objective reason for the track to have slowed down for the Gold Cup. Without such a reason, the top 3 in the Beldame look to have run their eyeballs out.

You had to be super impressed with Gomez\'s awareness. He knew he had inhaled that field at the mile and was cool and calm enough to realize the race was over with more than a quarter to run and not abuse his horse. Theres not many jocks with that kind of situation awareness. I love S.A. I really dont know much about this guy. Probably because of the California factor, but he just moved way up on my short list.

Borrego came home in 26.17 Sure looks like he could have shaved a full second or more off that.

Maybe the bounces aren\'t quite as large as everyone seems to think. If thats the case Borrego just ran a Bellamania number, but this time it may be legit.

The Gold Cup was run partially around the first turn. Perhaps the track was not uniform and the first turn was slower (rarely used) than the rest of the track. If it was, what does that say about the fractions. :)

Yeah, I\'m not comfortable with the track at all that day. Clearly a day you have to factor variant and probability of consistent effort. Very tough day. Agree that part of the track is not run on much.

Maybe the water trucks have something to do with it too.
