Knowing that the BC produces some monster prices this day, what are some of the wagers that most of you all play?? I\'m thinking this year I\'m swing for it all with wagers like the Pick 4 and some super\'s........I know super\'s seems real hard to hit, anybody ever taken this big boy down that paid something?? Thanks...

I will be focusing more towards the pick threes/fours and exactas with win money on horses I like over 20/1

Kev,
I\'m going with pk3\'s and pk4\'s. Key at least two in each leg, and use one or two others a bit lighter (maybe go a bit deeper in a leg of a pk4). For smaller bets, and more for rooting purposes because I got a pretty good seat to watch the races, I will key one horse in each race and play small tri\'s and super\'s. The big fields produce results that are more random than usual. If there were 80 races, I would lean on a key in each race and wait for a score. With only 8 races, my odds of getting shut out are too large unless I spread it.

Cool, thanks guys. I\'m leaning towards pick 4\'s. Maybe some rolling pick 3\'s.

Kev,

Look at the Super payouts and exacta payouts even with favorites on top. P3 & P4 have also been generous the past few years as the pools have grown. Check the NTRA site or DRF site for past results charts for the BC.

Oh I have, yes the super\'s have been paying fat. The pick 4\'s also very well. For ex. in 2003 the the $1 pick 4 paid 9,801.90 odds of the horses winning were = 14-1, 9-2 and a 14-1 dead heat, 26-1, 5-2. 2002 it paid 16,349,30 odds = 43-1, 4-5, 4-1, 13-1.

Kev:

This is very non- scientific, and goes against my methodology for capping a big event such as the BC, which involves hours of poring over DRF and TGs and watching race replays where available. I have posted this information on the TG board before, and apologies to those who have already read it.

A friend of mine told me that a win wager on every horse who went off at odds of 20/1 within a couple minutes of post made you a winner over the 20 years of BC racing. Of course the $260 or so mutuel on Arcangues figures heavily in this scenario.

Last 2 years: In 2004, 32 runners were more than 20/1 at post time. If you wagered $20 on each of these, you layed out $640, but were rewarded with a $578 payoff on Better Talk Now and a $586 payoff on Wilko. Profit = $524.

In 03, 34 runners were 20-1 or above at post time. For an investment of $680, you cashed with Adoration $834, Cajun Beat for $476, and Action This Day for $556. Profit = $1186.

Of course there were many years when the 20/1 angle produced no winners. Its fun to play with the numbers, say changing the threshold to 15/1 or 30/1 and see what results. This game was also a little more interesting before common pools when you could go to your local simo facility and \"shop\" odds.

I will file a full report if and when i can procure a full set of charts (84- 04)

Betting every horse in the Distaff, Turf and Classic has resulted in a flat-bet profit over the years.
