Tough race with 4 horses that have a great shot. Going to key Rodriguez with the big 3. Journalism,  Baeza & Sovereignty.  Heart of Honor and Crudo in the bottom spots.

Roman

We could of had an Alydar and Affirmed rivalry here if Sovereignty didn\'t skip the middle jewel. Hopefully these to stay sound, and the rivalry continues.

Feel robbed of a Triple Crown.

TGJB

So your thinking is, because what Mott did worked perfectly, it means he should have done something else?

Just being selfish Jerry. Bill Mott has been the best trainer for the last 30 years at least. And he will forget more about horses tonight then I will ever know in my life.

After that race, in hindsight, had me wondering if he had run in the Preakness, because Mott mentioned that he was the type of horse that could run 3 times in 5 weeks and be competitive , he probably would have won and Journalism probably would have been second. The results from today, running 1-2 again,  just had me nostalgic about racing. An Affirmed / Alydar type rivalry would of been great great for the sport and the Travers would get a lot more buzz.

And if Baeza would of ran in the Preakness and finish third, has that ever happened?

If the goal was not to win the Triple Crown, then yes it worked perfectly

An interesting perspective that success is now viewed as a failure. How a horse is managed is up to the connections - and they have won both of the Triple Crown races that they entered. Hypotheticals aside - I\'m sure that they feel pretty good right now about their horse and after the Belmont stated that they \"have no regrets\" about skipping the Preakness.

To those who say they won\'t be more interested in the Travers this year than most if both triple crown race winners go because Sovereignty didn\'t run in the Preakness (or the same for the BC) I say liar liar pants on fire.

Where did I say success was a failure??

The interesting perspective is you jumping to that conclusion

I, for one, get it.
Goldolphin and Co.\'s condescenscion towards the traditional importance of the Triple Crown can only be proximately redeemmed by running him as a four yr old. And my guess is that would be the plan? They seem to have a greater plan than the Triple Crown. What would that be?
Any change in the The Test of Champions, would necessarily entai a new paradigm for breed performance standards.
Let\'s forego the many Chicken Littles and thinl seriously about breed performance standards.
Let\'s say the Test of Champions extends to any given crop\'s four yr old season.
Let\'s say a horse must run in designated graded stakes races as a 3yr old AND as a 4yrold to get the top honors. Where a crop runs against themselves as 3yr olds AND must run again against each other as 4yr olds. If you want a new path, let it be a real path.
By Goldolphin and Co.\'s own words, they essentially forfeited the Preakness.
So let\'s run through next year.

And, Rispoli was out of his league. SA and DMR ain\'t hardknocking tracks. He didn\'t have the chops. Sovereignty benefited from more savy connections.
It was painful to watch the Belmont replay. (missed it live)
I knew when they got to the far turn Sovereignty had it won. And I bet so did Junior Alvarado
Most jockeys can ride the horse.
Good jockeys can ride the horse and the race.
Today, Rispoli did neither.
it\'s a tough ask jumping fron sunny So Cal for anyone

Michael Mcarthy had that horse as well as he could have been. He danced all the dances. Great horsemanship

I heard on the Fox show that, according to someone from Godolphin, they want to take him to Dubai next year.

catcapper

Well there you have it.
Dubai, home turf of Goldolphin. In fact, they own the whole country, United Arab Emerites.
HISA/HIWU has no jurisdiction there. However, the UAE does have the ERA , Emirates Racing Association which is essentially the racing commission over thoroughbred racing in Dubai, UAE. Including overseeing their medication policies and testing.

For the sake of the breed, all horses should be under the same testing protocols during their racing careers.

What the hay

What I was trying to say was it would of been cool if there was an Alydar/Affirmed rivalry in all 3 TC races leading into the Travers. Nothing more than that. Mott and McCarthy have managed there horses perfectly and was in no way meant to criticize the connections for any decisions they made.

I was young when Affirmed won the TC, and was intrigued by the feat of them running competitively against each other for so many races at the top level.

Selfishly wanting to see that occur again, I might of said something that was taken out of context.

Winner received a 109 beyer should be a TG number around a -2
I’m guessing Journalism paired.

Hopefully we see them again in the Travers.

Both are damn good horses.

Journalism and Sovereignty ran the same figure yesterday.

This is Affirmed/Alydar or Sunday Silence/Easy Goer type stuff. It\'s AP Indy, Unbridled, Bernardini ....these horses are incredible. And I\'m keeping Baeza right in the mix.

I freakin love HISA.

Would McCarthy skip the Travers and run in the Pacific Classic? Why ship? If he wins, then wins the BC Classic, he\'s HOY, regardless of what Sovereignty does. Not saying that\'s right (or wrong), but it\'s 100% they vote McCarthy over Mott if that happens.

But most important - let\'s hope all of these great 3 yr olds stay healthy.

ajkreider

They may get the same fig, but that 23.6 last quarter by the winner isn\'t in Journalism\'s quiver. Someone posted that it was the 2nd fastest 10F at Saratoga in the last 30 years (Arrogate).  In other years, both Journalism and maybe Baeza would be TC winners.

If Sovereignty wins the Travers, and then sits out the year, he\'s HOY.  One head to head loss can be overcome - not two
