Given that I spent my formative years at the track, the only recollection I have of \"Shakespeare\" is that he was a fairly handy turf horse.

Slam dunk? Every time there is a defender on the court, the theory gets swatted into the stands. Among a million other things, there are problems with the timing/death, problems with the presumed motives for anonymity, and crippling problems with the writing styles. I realize that proponents of the theory are well practiced at bending themselves into pretzels in order to explain away all the objections, but whatever all this bending adds up to, it does not add up to a slam dunk. I suspect that what is really going on here is that you are trying to smuggle class handicapping onto this board.

Who it was and who it wasn’t are two separate questions. There are problems with all the candidates, including Shakespeare. Whose daughters were illiterate.

There are indeed problems with all the candidates. That is why I got tired of waiting for someone else to challenge the \"slam dunk for Edward de Vere\" line.

As for Shakespeare\'s daughters being illiterate, given the conditions for girls back then, I would not take that fact any further than the obvious place: It means we can eliminate them as candidates.

I\'m going to go out on a limb and say you haven\'t read the Anderson book.  (Anderson, by the way, is a lefty, so there goes your class handicapping objection.)

hellersorr

Not only were Shakespeare\'s daughters illiterate - so were his parents!

In fact, the man from Stratford-upon-Avon may himself have been illiterate.  All we have in his handwriting are a few signatures, spelled several different ways and some barely legible.

From a sex worker forced to go remote all the way back to Shakespeare\'s illiterate
daughters. This is the reason to come to the TG Board even if no legitimate tracks
are running.

Maybe next week a lively discussion about the Wife of Bath?

Every inch of this ground is contested, Hellersorr. This subject was a battlefield before the book. It is a battlefield after the book. Take a poll of Shakespeare scholars and the de Vere theory would lose--as it already has--in a monumental rout, \"slam dunks\" notwithstanding. More \"slam dunks\" came out in the years since the book was published, some of these on the opposite end of the court. Earlier, Nietzsche could not stay out of the debate. Neither could Freud. Neither could Jung. Neither could Mark Twain. And now there is a massive industry devoted to \"slam dunking\" from opposite directions.

In all of this, I see only one real slam dunk: Anderson is not a \"lefty.\" No self-respecting \"lefty\" could possibly go weak at the knees listening to the \"compelling\" words of Pete Buttigieg.

Obviously, I’m making board exceptions in the time of Covid.

I have no idea whether this theory is right, but it’s definitely the coolest one. The screenplay writes itself, have to wonder why it hasn’t happened yet.

If I remember correctly (and it’s not mentioned in the article), the Queen issued a proclamation that no further investigation of Marlowe’s death was to take place without her personal say-so. Ever.

This guy has spent the last 15 years looking for patterns in the first folio, and boy does he find them. Makes for good TV - he started doing these movies in Norwegian but he has made three of them now aimed at a more international crowd, this guy is going for it.

I wonder what he could\'ve accomplished with a set of TG sheets instead, though...
