Gotta hand it to Navarro. He told Maggie on air BEFORE the race that is the best horse he\'s ever trained. Haven\'t seen too many like that one in 50 or so years in racing. Wouldn\'t surprise me if that was the fastest number ever for a three-year-old sprinter.

lfe2211: Some trainers know that their horses will test negative post race because they are being treated with fast clearing PEDs. Can you say Nitrotain? Since there is no random out of competition testing done in the US, you can train your horse on a powerful anabolic steroid like Nitrotain, stop on Tuesday  and race with impunity on Saturday. This allows you to turn an ordinary 3yo maiden claimer into a multiple G1 winner or a good 3 yo sprinter into Dr. Fager!

ajkreider: Maybe steroids work differently in horses. The main benefit for people is that they recover quicker, which allows harder and more frequent training.

Servis, at least, doesn\'t seem to train that way at all - if anything, it\'s the reverse. His horses wouldn\'t gain anything by use of such things. Can\'t speak to Navarro\'s training, but he seems to baby XY Jet, for one.

lfe2211: You need to watch the videos on Servis horse\'s works. Those 4F in 53 are totally deceptive. Typically his horses jog the first 2 furlongs then run hard past the finish line, then around the clubhouse turn and finally up the backstretch. Just go to XBTV.com and look at the MS works for example. All of the works on video that I\'ve seen are just like that.

onward800: I don\'t want to be a cynical wise guy or Debbie Downer, but surely there is a considerable chance that  it was too fast and too much exertion for the horse\'s good, and that he might not be the same after that performance. I remember McCleans Music: 21.24, 43.48, 55.05, 107.44 - 114 Beyer, fastest debut Beyer at the time. I wish Shanceleot happiness, good health, and many wins. But surely there must be healthy limits even for Navarro trainees.
