I was involved in discussion with another figure maker about Accelerate\'s three consecutive -3 1/4 Thorograph figs before the Pacific Classic.  That person said those figs were earned under very favorable scenarios and Accelerate towered over his competition in class and pace.  I said I didn\'t think Thorograph looked at that in coming up with its figs but wansn\'t for sure.  Can someone smarter than me settle this issue?

My understanding is a figure is a figure. The 3 consecutive neg 3 1/4\'s are impressive, and there is no adjustment for a \"favorable scenario\". Everything is already factored into the figure-ie, was he wide, carrying more weight, start slow, taken up, etc. However, if the horse won while being eased up, or ran on a dead rail, the sheet tells us that (!, or X to the right of the figure) also. My point is that I don\'t think we should start adjusting the figures based on what someone may think is a favorable scenario. the figure is the figure.

Start slow and taken up like eased up while winning or running on a dead rail are noted on the sheet but the figures are NOT adjusted for their affect. We deem these events as subjective and put the note there to let the handicapper know that something may have happened in the running of the race that may have affected the final figure. It\'s up to the handicapper to make an adjustment if necessary.

Yes, the figure is the figure and we do NOT adjust for pace or class.

TGAB - forgive the potentially dumb question, but does TG advise that the handicapper should account for pace after using the data? Or is it suggested that the handicapper not allow for pace to enter the equation when looking at a race?

Thanks.

Think Race Shapes--that\'s what we use to estimate where the horse will be after the first quarter. But we think of it in terms of what horses potentially lose or save ground from the given post. See attachment.

We advocate using whatever you feel will make you a more successful handicapper both in terms of sussing out races and wagering. We feel Thoro-Graph provides a comprehensive package of data to attack the handicapping puzzles, races, including: performance figures graphed; pertinent trainer data; sire data; dam and sibling data; and race shapes.

Thanks Andy! This response was very much appreciated and confirms what I had thought. I wanted to be able to speak correctly about the product when I explain it to my friends who use the TG sheets but at a beginner level, thanks again.
