In Friday\'s ungraded Winter Memories at Aqueduct, have a look at Gianna\'s
Dream. Claimed for 25K at the Spa by Michael Maker from one of the top
claiming outfits in the US, GD came back in nine days with 50K claimers
trying turf for the first time and won easily on the lead at 9/1. The
Oklahoma bred was subsequently shipped to Remington Park and dominated two
Okie bred turf stakes as the odds on favorite.

Although Gianna looks outclassed in the ungraded Winter Memories, with her
most accomplished competitors coming out of graded races, it is difficult to
ignore Maker\'s success with converting turf claimers into turf stakes winners.
Maker bagged the Red Smith Handicap with Bigger Picture (9/1, tabbed by TGAB
in the AQ Analysis); I believe Maker claimed Bigger Picture for 30 or 35K from
Linda Rice.

To be fair, not all of the Miracle Maker\'s turf claims cover themselves in
glory. In Friday\'s AQ finale, Hudson River Gal was claimed by MM from Michael
Hushion from a 40K maiden claiming race at Belmont; a month later she broke
her maiden with maiden 75K claimers, but has not really distinguished herself
since and is offered for 25K on Friday.

The same diabetic or high blood pressure medication may not work as effectively for different people.

Joe:

I will quote two earlier icons: Spike Lee and Michael Jordan:

\"Its gotta be the shoes\".

MM\'s turf horses seem to run well over many different turf courses, and I
would not be surprised if he or one of his farriers has developed some edge in
this area, though your point about hypertension is a valid one.
