Saw this on the Pull the Pocket blog:

In a harness racing trade mag yesterday Mac Nichol, owner of Madefromlucky said both his horse and Materiality were under the weather after the Belmont Stakes. I thought MFL was going to be very good at 12f, so maybe that explains him spinning his wheels. Materiality came last, was all done in 1:14 for 6f, and was beaten by 15 by horses he is better than, so that makes sense to me, too.

Miff pointed out that sickness/virus/etc. was running through the barn.  But TAP said on tv that the horses affected weren\'t entered.

Now, after the fact, we learn from owners that TAP horses that didn\'t perform well were \"under the weather.\"  You\'re telling me with the wealthiest owners, the best vet care in the world, and the best trainer in the history of the game, these guys couldn\'t figure out which horses were \"under the weather\" before those 2 days of racing?  Get out of here.

Let me guess, even the best stock in the world gets sick from time to time. Yes, yes, I understand...the best bred stock win all the races for this guy when he wins 50 percent.  When he fails miserably it\'s b/c the horses in his barn are just like the horses in everyone else\'s barn.

No conspiracy here.  Just nonsensical that these connections can\'t figure out if this many horses were \"sick\" over a 2 day period.  I\'ve seen one of the worst trainers at Fairmount walk past me and say to a buddy of his \"my horse won\'t run a step b/c his blood cell counts are not good\" as the horses walked onto the track.  And then his 6/5 shot ran up the track.  Not Pletcher\'s guys though, they ran the best bred horses in America without knowing the horses were under the weather.  Please....
