Felt the need to repost this because I got zero response on May 3. What I\'ve been looking at is this: As an owner/trainer when did you have a comfortable amount of points- what was your intent in the remaining race(s) prior to the Derby and how much did it or not take out of your horse. Generally speaking, in 2013-14, the first two years, 20 points gets you in but nobody wants to cut it that close. Let\'s say you want 50 points to feel safe. So a few examples: AP 60 pnts after the Rebel win on Mar 14 with the Arkansas remaining. Cranked up? Probably not. Firing Line 8 pnts going into the Sunland on Mar22. Had to win to get the 50 pnts.Cranked. Dortmund 70 after the RBL on Mar7. Pedal to the metal in the SA? Probably not. Materiality went into the Florida with 0 pnts! Frosted with only 9 had to get 1st or 2nd in the Wood. I\'ve kept this brief-so many other angles to examine but food for thought? Note: 10-4-2-1 from the Iroquois Sep6 through the Southwest Feb22.... 50-20-10-5 Gotham,San F.& TBD Mar7 through the Sunland Mar22.... 100-40-20-10 the UAE Mar28 on out(the Lexington Apr11 is 10-4-2-1).

Its the same consideration as when they ran for graded purse money.

Personally, I prefer return to the graded purse structure. Why should select races be weighted for entry but other graded events get little to no recognition.

A sprinter can develop and be appropriately placed in the Derby. It\'s not right to exclude a horse based upon distance weighted races. After watching that Derby for Snails anyone arguing otherwise is lobbying for Kentucky \"Holdem\".

How about to avoid anyone \"not trying\" in the late races (which didn\'t happen this year) and to reward the highest point earners, we award post position CHOICE by the highest point total?
