I could still be right. I understood the broadcast was interrupted by an incorrect report, I have no idea how wrong the report was. They may not have said Normandy either....my point was that I understand the broadcast was interrupted by an incorrect report. Do we have any radio historians out there?

Hey, if you believe it then it\'s true. -)

I don\'t know if I believe it or not.  An old timer told me about it on the bus to bowie one day in 1977.  I am now motivated to find a radio historian who can answer this for me.  I will report back

SoCal;

Here\'s a link to the front page of the NYT for the Sunday following Count Fleet\'s Belmont. There was a big meeting in North Africa with Eisenhower, Marshall, et al (see boxed story in the middle of the front page) that hinted at new plans for continued offensives to win the war in the quickest and most efficient way possible. Not Normandy, but a sign that the end was in sight, and that the allies would proceed with all due speed.

And Count Fleet won by 30 lengths in 2:28, \"hard held\".

Nice detective work.  BTW my DRF chart for the race says Count Fleet won by 25 lengths, time of 2.28 and 1/5 and the comment is galloping. Also there is a notation that says \"geldings not eligible\".  Funny Cide would have never like that.  The Withers was also a geldings not eligible race.  Might have been a New York thing.

I left out the fraction as I was doing this on one screen and could only remember the 2:28.

The \"no geldings\" is more of an \"old world\" thing than a NY thing. There are still races in Europe (the Arc for one) where geldings are equine non grata.
