Youbet - Denial of Service Attack ?

Anybody else been having problems logging in to the Youbet site?  After functioning OK for the past 9 months neither I nor west coast friends of mine can log on at all.  Can\'t even reach the home page.  This has been going on about the last 3 weeks.

Youbet customer service denies that anything is wrong and that perhaps there\'s a problem with both of my PCs (I use two of them one a wireless connection, one a dial-up) and all of my friends\' as well.  Smells like a denial of service attack to me.  Mall mentioned to me that websites in Europe have been blackmailed with the threat of a DOS attack.  I guess Youbet management figures they\'re all but done if this gets out.  Anyone else have a similar story?

Yes!  Not only was I unable to log in, but when I could log in, my account statement showed the correct balance, but the wager pad refused to let me bet because it claimed there were no funds with a date of almost 3 weeks ago!

I have had so many problems with them - they charge you for EFT deposits (89 cents per $100 - how tacky is that??); their AV won\'t work because their server is worthless and can\'t handle the population - but they tell you it\'s your firewall or media 9 install or some other standard technological feature that everyone has but them.

When I ask them why I can get the video feed from Xpressbet and TVG - but not them - they still say it\'s my computer.

And try calling to talk to a computer tech - every time they\'ll say you \"just missed him\"!  There isn\'t any computer tech and the people who answer the phones are clueless.

Once SA is over - this firm is HISTORY!

Deb:

I\'m pretty technologically sophisticated and I\'m convinced they\'re under attack.  I thought this about a week ago after discussing the situation with fellow TG player OPM who has had similar problems.  Being unable to access his account cost him more than 5G last Saturday alone when we were playing together via the phone.

Youbet\'s customer service people have obviously been instructed to tell clients that \"the problem is on your end.\"  I will be opening an account at a different site that will remedy this problem.  Thanks for weighing in.

I had no problem logging on to youbet-9:00pm eastern time, however, they have had problems the past couple of weeks.  Video was clear tonight(I have a cable modem).  The day of the SA Derby, the site crashed ...or something.  It was down until the next day. No wagering, logging on, depositing, watching, etc.  I had planned on staying home to bet that day but had to go to the  OTW.  I had money in my account and took it out the next day.  They sent out an e-mail stating that they had to work all night to correct whatever their problem was.  I am not currently keeping money in my account, which I had done in the past.  I agree they seem to be on some kind of \"downside\".

Catalin, Besides the SA derby weekend, I have not had any problems with UBET site. I\'m watching the AQ replay of the 2nd race right now and the picture quality is great. Even on SA derby day,I thought their betting phone lines were operating. I\'m on the East coast. You may want to try deleting the ubet program and redownloading it.Asfufh

I too only had problems on SA Derby day. Last weekend was fine; today too.

I think that the reason the people on the East Coast don\'t have problems with Youbet is that they cannot bet Santa Anita, only California residents are \"allowed\" that \"priviledge\"!  They had problems on SA Derby Day because all the servers were tied up with CA - but when they bet the 2nd at Aqueduct - there\'s no one out here betting.

Try getting on after the last race at Aqueduct and see if you still have open access.

Thanks for the tip, I will try it.  BTW, I\'m on the East Coast (S Florida) and I\'ve had trouble almost every time, each and every day.  OPM in N. California has had little success with the site as well.  Today I used my Philly Park account.  I had forgotten how bad their system is.

Delmar Deb, Anyone who is a UBET member can bet Santa Anita not just Californians. As an East Coaster, I\'ve done it many times (in fact, too many times). Asfufh

I\'m from California and I\'m on youbet several times a week wagering at Santa Anita. FWIW I was locked out on SA derby day too. All is okay now.

OPM

Only CA residents are suppose to bet the Magna tracks on Youbet, I guess you\'ve been lucky.  Their service(or lack of it)cost me big last week.  If TVG is not better, then it\'s time to find a different hobby.

asfufh

OPM, I don\'t think you are correct in stating that only Cal residents are supposed to be allowed to bet at Santa Anita via Ubet. What\'s your source of info on this?
Asfufh

OPM

Originally, Magna wanted to shut out all other sites from Magna tracks.  However, under pressure from the CHRB, they allowed CA resident to bet SA, however, that may have changed.  Frankly, I don\'t know when and I don\'t care.  However, I promise you it will be different the next time Magna run this meet starting on Dec. 26.  For now, let\'s rejoice that Magna is gone.  Don\'t get me wrong, I don\'t think TVG is great, actually I hate being charged $0.25 for each bet I make up to $20/month but at least the races will be live on TV.

Asfufh:

Tried what you suggested and it didn\'t work.  In fact it was so bad it took nearly one hour to download their software.  I\'m with OPM, I\'m done with Youbet.

asfufh

Catalin, Sorry the re-download didn\'t work. It sounds like you have a dial-up connection (one hour to download!!!). If so, you may want to look into a Broadband connection(if available in your area) even if you wind up using TVG or whoever for your online betting. Even though it is more expensive, it\'s much ,much faster, can handle streaming video much better, and, most importantly, imho it is much more reliable than dial-up. Good luck. Asfufh
