Here\'s the link from drf:http://www.drf.com/news/phipps-calls-publicly-available-veterinary-files-triple-crown-contenders

I hope the trainers obtain permission from the horses first. If PETA finds out the horses HIPPA rights are being violated they will have a s_ _ t fit.

this is funny, thanks for posting!

I have a question though for everyone on this topic

didn\'t NYRA publish the vet records for all of the Belmont horses two years ago?  Someone was nice enough to post the link to those records on the site and I remember printing them and reviewing them.

how is what Phipps proposing different from that?

I could very well be missing something so someone please correct me if I am

hooper

Cove,I believe the records released the last two years were for treatments administered while the horses were on NYRA property,72 hours out. Phipps is looking for a 14 day disclosure. At least that is my understanding. I prefer the Hong Kong model for disclosure.

miff

Jim,

He\'s suggesting CD, Pimlico and Nyra all release vet info 14 days before. Presently, only NYRA/NYSGC release vet info a few times per year and it\'s less than 14 days out(believe)Opposition to that from many quarters fearing PETA Loons/Joe Dope sensationalism and possible adverse effect on handle.

It\'s Jockey Club PR from a guy who reportedly raced a Class 4 bleeder(ORB) in the TC series last year without disclosing it to the public.

ah, thanks for the clarification

if they do anything like that, it better come with some sort of footnote and explanation table because 95% of the betting public (most certainly myself included) couldn\'t make any sense whatsoever of vet records

I look at all my vet bills every month and then I call my bloodstock agent for him to explain it to me and half the time he has to call one of our vets to explain it to him and then half the time our vet then has to call the adminsitering vet to get clarity on what was done.

In one case when we were vetting a private purchase and we were reviewing the vet records (a common practice), the administering vet couldn\'t even remember why the horse was treated with a certain medication. We were pretty sure he was being sincere about not remembering but we passed on the horse anyway just in case

How about this? Mr. Phipps releases the vet records on Orb last year during and before the Triple Crown races. Something like setting an example instead of calling out others to do something you haven\'t done.

And, while I\'m on a soapbox here, I think the call for Asmussen to \"not participate\" in the Derby is ridiculous. He has been charged with nothing although under announced investigations by state organizations.

If Phipps wants to set an example he should do something tangible instead of pontificating about others.

What\'s the point of being a Phipps if you have to do what everyone else does?

No single person had more juice/influence than Phipps did regarding NY racing. NYRA racing went backwards under his stewardship, an elitist blowhard with a personal agenda.

All those with the green jackets and yellow pants who f--ked the game up with their inaction for years should just go away.Give someone else a chance to help the game.

My opinion from 25 years of horse ownership -- vets are the only race track entity that are guaranteed to make a profit from the sport of kings. Owners are definitely not. Trainers, Jockeys, Agents (Bloodstock and Jockey), Breeders, Pin Hookers, Race Track Operators, Bettors, Publications, etc. -- No.

Used to be you could expect a monthly bill for training and vet service to be around $3,000 per horse for many years. Now, I am relieved if it is under $4,000 (major southern California tracks). Most of the increase is from the vet bills.

So the game is better off now with the IEAHs, the Riccios, the Karakorums
than it was when there were Phipps, Vanderbilts, Whitneys, Mellons, King
Ranch etc?

Green jackets and yellow pants? I think you have horse racing confused with
the Masters.

There is a joke told at the end of the documentary about Monte whoever, the
\"Horse Whisperer\"

The joke is that there is a captain of an old British war ship, who calls to a
mate to go up in the crows nest and report. The mate yells down from the
crow\'s nest that there is one enemy ship on the horizon. The captain turns to
another mate and says \"Get me my red shirt, so if I am wounded my crew will
not know it.\"

A few minutes later, the mate in the crows nest reports that there are now 10
enemy ships on the horizon; the captain turns to the mate on deck and says
\"Get me my brown pants.\"

miff

Bee,

Those in charge are responsible, and Phipps was \"in charge\" for many years until he resigned before Cuomo axed him.Forget the Masters, go to the dining room at the SPA and the yellow and green crowd are prominent.

Thanks for the story RB, I think I will plan on changing into brown pants prior to the Woodford Reserve this year, as I can never seem to get that one right.
