NYRA Completely Irrelevant

It\'s mid April, Spring, the traditional Florida winter dates are over and they have run the Wood Memorial. So why did Gulfstream with a track running in direct competition with them 20 miles down the road out handle NYRA the past 2 days?

Saturday\'s Aqueduct card was a complete and total piece of garbage; at least they had some full fields, that would be the only positive. Probably the worst Saturday card ever given the time of year.

We know what to expect on the inner Jacobson, Rodriguez, Rice circuit; but wait it\'s April the main track, Florida horses are back. Of the 9 races only 3 were for horses that had ever beaten non state bred winners and one of them had a 4 horse field and another had 5. The late pick 4 consisted of a pair of maiden races, NYB NW1X and the 8th an open NW1X where at least 3 of the 5 starters had ever beaten a winner!!!

I invested maybe a grand total of $1,000 on the inner track debacle over 4 months.I eagerly anticipated Wood day and a chance to wager on home turf. Last Saturday\'s Wood card had some nice stakes and full fields in the preliminary races, a feat without use of the turf course for sure. It was nice to have the former major league circuit be relevant and have some buzz; along with a 15 million dollar handle as opposed to 5 million this week!!!

Gulfstream with an innovative .20 cent pick 6 bet, a 20% take out on most exotics out handled NYRA and Santa Anita on Friday. It beat NYRA on Saturday by the 500,000 in the pick 6 pool which obviously creates interest in the other races throughout the day.

Clueless Kay and company are in for a very rude wake up call real soon. How in the world can anyone justify paying out the purse money they are to horseman for such a product? They want to privatize! Who in the world would pay a nickel for this broken business model? The political vultures are lurking and the party will be over real soon boys.

They might as well make David Jacobson CEO of NYRA, he seems to be the only one here with a clue how to make money!

Good luck,

Frank D,

Maybe worse than that for NYRA with Wood Day a staggering disappointment, handle down 16+% vs 2013(attendance up by 600)It seems that the horrific NYRA winter racing had a \"carryover\" effect that soured gamblers who are betting other venues. There may be an issue also with that 5% witholding fee for NY residents that play with out of State ADW\'s,though no one seems to know exactly what\'s happening there.

NYRA pouring huge $$ down dark hole with big purses going to garbage level NY Bred maiden claiming slow rats. Purses in such races often exceed the horseflesh value of the entire field.....terrible shame. With that said, Clueless Kay champions raising admission, nickle and diming customers.
Impending Belmont and Saratoga meets will confirm just how much damage garbage winter racing product has done to gamblers at NYRA tracks.Hard to believe NYRA could hurt the SPA, we\'ll see.

Almost no chance NYRA will be sold to a private/public company.

Reprivatization will look like old NYRA with Cuomo appointing some type of stooges in an oversight role. That is how Coumo will justify NYRA continuing to receive slot subsidies going forward. If he throws NYRA under the bus and pulls the slot subsidies, NYRA is history, the future of NY racing in trouble, very very doubtful but Cuomo\'s disdain for racing precedes him.

Good Luck
Mike

P.S. After yesterday, CC looking awfully Derby tough if he\'s got one more in his nickle bred body.

\"NYRA pouring huge $$ down dark hole with big purses going to garbage level NY Bred maiden claiming slow rats\"

- At the same time they\'re pouring that money down the slow NY-bred rat-hole, they\'re gonna chisel a few extra bucks out of me when I go to the Spa, for the privilege of watching cards full of those same rats. If Kay actually possessed the customer service genius they touted upon his hiring he\'d realize that the idea of paying any admission at all to any race track is utterly absurd. The price of admission should be nothing more than their rake on what we put through their windows. Making me pay to get into the track makes about as much sense as Hannaford charging me admission when I walk in to do my weekly grocery shopping. And I can bet from home for free. \"Brilliant!\"

As for Cuomo, well, here\'s hoping he gets caught up in some combination of the Moreland Mess and Bridgegate/Port Authority filth...a longshot, sure, but a guy can dream, can\'t he?

I haven\'t bet a NY race since sometime in November. When I get my Saturday Form, the NY section gets torn out and thrown straight into the recycling bin along with the rest of the cheap tracks. I bet less than I used to overall. The thing they don\'t seem to recognize is that sometimes when a \"customer\" stops using a product for awhile, they get kind of used to going without it. Habits change.

And speaking of habits to kick...can\'t believe that in this day and age, I can\'t play the late Keeneland pick four today, just because I live in NY state. I guess they\'re afraid Jesus will haz a sad and Satan will own my soul if I get down on Palm Sunday? Why should an agnostic not be able to bet today? Guessing they can still sell those, pardon the pun, goddamned scratch-off tickets today, though. And the casinos will be open. Just no horsies.

Guess I\'ll just go to Hannaford and do the shopping now....
