4 more Atlantic City casinos drop simulcasting – Borgata is last one standing

The New Jersey Racing Commission's agenda for tomorrow afternoon's meeting has a sobering item for horsemen:

"Notice from Caesars Entertainment's Atlantic City properties (Bally's, Caesars, Harrah's Resort and Showboat) to cease all simulcast operations at midnight December 31, 2013."

That leaves only Borgata among Atlantic City casinos still offer horse racing simulcasting in that city.

I looked up the casino-by-casino monthly gross revenue reports for Dec. 2013 and found these numbers:


- Borgata had a simulcasting handle of $1.5 million and simulcasting revenue of $133,000.

- Caesars had a $432,000 handle and revenue of $32,000.

- Bally's had a $413,000 handle and revenue of $37,000.

- Showboat had a $410,000 handle and revenue of $35,000.

- Harrah's had a handle of $321,000 and revenue of $28,000.

So Borgata already had a half-share of this market, and now gets it all. One horse racing buff told me today, "Now I know why [Borgata] was so crowded

I\'ve gone to those simulcast areas in A.C.a few times...think  of the worst nyc otb possible and that was what it was.  Tiny and dirty ..extremely depressing place from what I remember...

Bummer.  Loved the Taj Mahal simulcast section right next to the poker tables.  You could play poker and in between hands be entertained by the ponies.
