As usual, track officials say one thing about the safety of the racing surface,& jockeys say something entirely different. Absent a Pratt meter or something similar to provide objective, scientific data, I think you have to side with the jocks, who walked the track en masse after riding two races. Their conclusions were that the track was very uneven, going from concrete in some spots to very deep & muddy in others, that there was a rut on the 1st turn, & that spots were very loose & deep. I know there was a lot of additional rain overnight, but it seems unlikely to me that none of these conditions existed, although perhaps to a lesser degree, on Sat. And it was also clear imho before Sat that one section of the stretch is a much preferred path to any other. It is left to the reader to decide whether & to what extent this kind of information calls into question certain assumptions which are sometimes used in making figures.
