Fifth: JB characterized this as a chaos race. Most thought that Pletcher\'s
Citizen Emma was a vulnerable fave at 6/5 from the outside post. I held a
ticket in the P4 alive to four of these. Longshot Mariel and Kathy put token
pressure on Emma, setting up the cavalry charge. D Wayne\'s Broken Spell broke
DWL out of his Spa funk and busted my P4 ticket. The second and third
place finishers, Always Kitten and J\'Esprit, showed promise in their first
starts.

Steve Crist wrote \"3:25 pm: Try to remember the 5th race today the next time you get all paranoid and intimidated by the so-called \"smart money\" bet by the \"they\" who \"know.\"

Citizen Emma, who took the ridiculous $50k early punch in the win pool, went to the front early but was dead by the top of the stretch and finished fifth behind a group led by Broken Spell -- who came out of the same race as Citizen Emma and endured a tougher trip while finishing less than a length behind her. Broken Spell, who sould have been no more than 4-1, paid $15.80.

Broken Spell broke two other spells: She was the first winner of the meeting for D. Wayne Lukas after a 0 for 28 start. She also was the first Lukas 2-year-old to race with Lasix, adding it after three Lasixless starts for an outfit that had signed on to the little no-Lasix bandwagon until today.

Also, Stonestreet Stable lost a race for the first time at the meeting after a 6-for-6 start. Their Curlin firster, J\'esprit, finished thrid after a world of trouble without which they might be 7 for 7.\"

Bee - that wasn\'t you and FrankD with the early \"punch\" I hope???  Interesting sidebar on the Lasix addition??

Sounds like a fun day.  bb
