Opening day at the Spa is an official upstate NY holiday; offices will be empty, vacation days were applied for months ago and the tourists claimed all the picnic tables by 7:00 AM. NYRA, politicians, juice  trainers, NYB rats aside it\'s opening day and there simply is not another venue like it anywhere.

78 degrees, cloudy and all the rain staying south of Albany it will be comfortable and probably north of 25k will venture through the gates. There was just enough rain this week to probably make the turf course fair enough as opposed to the rock hard speedways of the past couple opening weeks.

I\'ll be playing quite a bit of tourist today myself as I\'m only interested in a couple of races so I walk around a bit with a friend and get touted 37 times on the next fastest horse in the world de jour.

I like Tom Voss\'s horse in the first and will make a key with him first and second with the 1,4,5 as well as 4 horse triple and super boxes. In the James Marvin I touted Pacific Ocean on Belmont Day to the board and he ran a suicidal 1/2 mile in 44. With tricky\'s news yesterday I would expect him to be firing on all cylinders this meet as I would not be surprised to see the new regime ban him when they take over. It will be a  political grand stand play of how they are cleaning up drugs in the sport. Pacific Ocean over Jackson Bend in a large exacta with a reverse enough to protect the bet.

Good luck to all; it is going to be a beautiful weekend and the wife is out of town!!!!!!

Nice calls, hope you crushed them.  The double with Pacific Ocean was very nice.

Frank:

Excellent point about Tricky, and excellent handicapping...

Note to self:

If losing next week, see fRank D. about large loan.  (preferred interest rate for kook-aid drinkers?)

Nice hit Frank.

Jimbo et all thanks for the well wishes. As we all know it\'s a long meet and I did not get paid for my opinion on Pacific Ocean. A big exacta play on what I thought was a classic 2 horse lone speed, best closer race along with horizontal greed.

Pretty dumb when you get 6/1 in a 6 horse field on the horse you like the best and as TGJB pointed out not much value leveraging the 4/5 shot for 2nd. Good handicapping, correct odds, bad betting.

Today\'s strategy is to stump the quiz master at the seminar; knowing TGJB (AKA the kid in the candy store) would be out late sampling all the local flavors I had him text me on his way home to wake me up to get my head into today\'s card.

Jimbo as far as the loan is concerned? You are the founding father of the non Mensa sect of the Carolina BBQ degenerates so you do qualify for the friends and family rate of a mere 2 points per week.

Good luck,
