Not much life on the board

Kinda dead on this board lately.  Does that reflect the state of the game?  I, for one, have not found a compelling reason to bet horses lately with the small fields in CA and low priced favorites winning most races.

There\'s more discussion here about Bruce Springsteen than horses. We need MJellish or Jim C to post some \'behind the scenes\' writeups and some winning picks. I think we could all use a few extra bucks to pay the mortgage, no? lol

We all know the biggest problem with the game is lack of leadership. I\'m not saying we need a national commish, but we need track owners and racing commissions to rule their own tracks with iron fists, but all we get is a soft stance to cheating and racing boards looking the other way.

Must be easier to look the other way than it is to rock the boat.

Unfortunately, the game is suffering badly because nobody seems to care to step up and say \"not in my track\".

I think you have to blame the Stronach\'s and the Churchill Downses and the NYRA\'s for not being the people in this game you could look up to. Is there really one track or one track owner group where people say \"if you want to cheat in horse racing, you can cheat anywhere easily EXCEPT this place?\" Is there one track that we know of where cheating is NOT tolerated and there\'s a zero tolerance policy? No, everyone is the same, cheat a little, get caught, get a wrist slap and get back to business as usual. Nobody will hold it against you and nobody will care. There are hundreds of thousands of dollars of betting money changing hands on these cheats and yet, the fine is 2,500 and a 30 day suspension? How about a 20k fine and a 6 month suspension just for starters.

NYRA\'s got a guy training now with 75 violations. What ever happened to 3 strikes and you are out?  Is it 100 strikes and  you\'re out in racing?

Life on this board? Give it a dozen days.

Good point, maybe it\'s the dull season between the Triple Crown series and the opening of Del Mar and Saratoga. But then again, I am boycotting Del Mar because of the unplayable plastic surface with the 1:15 six furlong winners.  I was once fun to take the train down there to spend the day and make some money. Since they changed from real dirt, I have not a clue on that quirky surface.

Silver Charm

Ace I think you hit the nail on the head on both accounts. However I will say about DelMar I used to feel the same way but the owners and trainers have figured out what pedigree works out there and Hollywood is a decent benchmark. For the first couple of Meets everybody was clueless and the Track was ridiculously slow.

Let me ask you this. What was worse, the current Synthetic surface or the Glory Days of the Milkshake Era they had going out there???

jimbo66

Disagree completely with Silver (again!)

Hollywood is not a benchmark at all for Delmar, when it comes to surface.  Holly plays much closer to dirt than any of the other synthetic surfaces.

Delmar plays close to NOTHING as far as I can tell.  It is unique and the only \"tell\" you can use is horses that have run well at Delmar previously.

As for your question, I will guess I am in the minority, but I will take playing the milkshake era over the disgusting Delmar surface.  At least I can \"factor\" trainer patterns when playing \"Milkshakes\".......

Jimbo:

Are you pre entered for Diana/Jimbo Dandy weekend?

jimbo66

Richiebee,

I am very much pre-entered.  Will be there Friday the 27th, through Monday the 30th.

The only thing that make me \"scratch\" is if I hear that TGJB is handling the seminar instead of TGAB.  Since it has been about 4 or 5 years, I think TGAB is \"curving back\" to his \"top\", which was that $96 dollar horse he gave in 2007 or 2008.......  :)

Will you be there?

richiebee

Jim:

Will be there for at least Friday and Saturday, tentative on Sunday. Agreed that TGAB
is long overdue.
