Tell your girlfriends family that the real you lies somewhere between mobster & idiot - so your GF is safe.
Not so sure about \"Luck\".
Shifty trainer, hidden ownership, arrogant 10 lb. bug rider with a bumbling agent & worst of all a fatal breakdown.  Just what the casual or potential racing fan needs to be made aware of. Only saver character may be Nick Nolte\'s - a la the real Lucien Laurin.
The sound of the breakdown & the subsequent euthanization is exactly the ammunition that PETA, ASPCA & every other well meant but over the top animal rights group is looking for to get our game banned. Tragedy is part of sport. The fact that thoroughbreds sometimes give their \"all\" for us is something that should be in our consciousness but not in our eyesight.

Caught it at 11PM after Supe XLVI

Thought the second episode was better than the first.

Acknowledged that Racing is basically a dying sport (Ace/Hoffman\'s comment that
the grandstand was empty).

Nolte looking good as an old hardboot.

Comedy: My wife walked through the living room and saw a racing sequence,
wanted to know why they were running the races so late.

One can quibble with the production values, acting, realism, etc, but at the end of the day the storyline is most important to me.  These folks clearly thought their best shot was to look at the seediest aspect of the game, which is ok...except I\'m not interested and I don\'t think most marginal viewers will be.

Another choice would have been to focus on the highest interest part of the game, the classic races, and the wide variety of characters who compete every year to win them.  You could cut a swath from small barns to Arab sheiks to drug trainers to old hardboots, with a ton of side stories.

Viewers would have to tune in for the entire season just to see who wins the Derby.  Use your imagination for seasons two and three.
