I\'m no jockey but I am pretty sure that\'s not how you are supposed to ride the best horse in the race.

That guy is tough to predict.  I didn\'t hit Summer Bird as hard as I would otherwise have in the Travers and he gives him a good ride and then he almost gets Gozzip Girl killed today?

Horses don\'t come with power brakes or steering.

covelj70

yeah but I think the idea is to not try to squeeze through holes if you are on the best horse.

he couldn\'t have taken the horse to the outside to keep her out of trouble?

I had no skin in the game on this one, I just don\'t want to see a great young horse get hurt.

Look at the race again. He wasn\'t trying to squeeze through any hole.  He settled down, then he was forced into strangling her, trying to keep from running up the horses butt in front of him.  They break fast, but then that slow piece comes over right in front of him, but moving like a slug, and he had alot more horse.  He was running up it\'s azz, and he did a good job not having both of them go down - pretty slick move he made to stay in the saddle.

He couldn\'t get to the outside from where he was just after the gate - the number one horse on the rail, with the entire field coming in on him ???  That would take magic.

He made a good move on the backstretch, moving her up right up tight on the rail.

You can blame Kent for incredible balance and a bit of very slick riding to keep both of them from crashing.

high roller

kent is awful, almost ruined big brown, rode summer bird into the ground in the haskell, BLEW THE TRIPLE CROWN ON REAL QUIET.

after he let the horses settle and recover HE MADE THAT IDIOTIC RUSH UP THE RAIL FOR NO REASON.

i wouldn\'t allow him to touch my horses.

Uncle Buck

I think \"awful\" is way too harsh. He\'s in the Hall of Fame and is one of the nation\'s top 5 jocks earning wise. He does throw in an occasional \"WTF?\" ride like today but for each one of those he throws in 5 HOF rides. How did he ruin Big Brown? He lost once on that horse. But it doesn\'t matter what you or I think. McPeek, Mott, Shug, Bush and others seem to think he\'s good. I don;t think he needs your horses

If anybody needs a jockey, we have several HOF caliber types right here on the ole TG forum.

I have never seen such ridiculous comments, time and time again, regarding jockeys.

How many of you overweight, out of shape slugs, have ever ridden a thoroughbred, let alone one traveling around 40 MPH??

Nobody is perfect. Unless a jockey is perfect every single time, apparently he sucks. Do any of you critics know what it takes to be successful at this level??

Ted Williams really sucks, he only got a hit approximately 33% of the time. 2/3rds of the time he made an out. How that guy is in the baseball HOF, I\'ll never know. Bum.

He ruined Big Brown. You\'re serious, right?? Rode Summer Bird into the ground in the HAskell?? Blew the TC on Real Quiet?? Do you ever give anybody any credit??

The circus is in town, send in the clowns.

Desormeaux has given some of the best rides I have ever seen and some of the worst. I have noticed that when he has difficulty along the fence, he seems to give rides that are strange, to say the least. On occasion, he makes that seemingly early/premature run up along the fence(See Kentucky Derby ride this year as one example)

I would not be surprised if Gossip Girl was way too keen early on causing that wrestling match between Kent D and the filly. Sometimes when a horse is too fresh, they grab on and become tough to manage.

As far as him giving bad rides, it just seems that he is involved in more controversial rides than most.

Gozzip Girl breaks alertly from the one hole.  She goes about 20 strides settling in right on the rail in good position and stride heading into the turn.

A horse then moves over and cuts to the rail in front of them then slows it down within 2 strides.

Kent has to take up to keep from running over the slug that cut in front of them.  And he does it with skill and without disaster (although it came close enough)

And some here are mad at this jock? Why?  For preventing the normal type of disaster threat that occurs in all races?

What about the jock that took their slug to the fence to impede the favorite?

Go watch this race again, guys - its on Blood-Horse front page, surely.

It\'s tough for me to form an opinion on a jockey unless I get to see him/her ride on a regular basis or hear commentary from them regularly so I can understand their thinking.

The problem with Kent is that he\'s had some poor rides in some very high profile races. People tend to notice that kind of thing a lot more even if it\'s not fair. Then again, perhaps they should.

I didn\'t see where he was at fault with Gozzip Girl.
