Jesus, I was horrible today.

I was gloating last week when I killed it so I figure I need to own up to being a disaster this week.

Hope everyone else made out better than I did.

Covelj,

I joined you on the rough day front.  Woulda coulda shoulda.  Was down to Dominguez and Desormeaux in the Beverly D as my key horse and went for the horse with the better post and my perception of having more upside.  Next bad decision was the second half of my anti-Cat Move/Commentator doubles.  Was originally using Dry Martini/Tizway/Smooth Air in the 2nd half of the double with Flashing/Hearts AFire in the 1st half.  Then saw that SMooth Air was basically co-favored and underlaid in the doubles and pulled him from the ticket.  The decision was between Bullsbay and Macho Again and I am a confirmed Macho Again-hater,  But somehow, I decided to go with him because of his success at Saratoga even though Bullsbay did have decent figures and was quadruple the price.  Another bad call as the double paid over $300 and I had three figure doubles....

Even a blind squirrel occasionally finds an acorn and I am going to continue searching tomorrow.

Gotta be anti-Game Face in the Honorable Miss.  She is tomorrow\'s First Passage.  She ran a negative 4 on a quirky Calder surface where outside closers dominated on Summit of Speed day.  She has the same inflated figure that FP got and is a bounce candidate.  Any filly not named Rachel should bounce off negative 4\'s.  Based on the TG figs, the obvious key would be #6 All Giving.  Has a long string of sold numbers and enough time since the huge figs at Laurel to run back to them.  However, I get the sneaky feeling I have seen this story before.  NY shipper with huge (inflated) mid-lantic Thorograph figures ships to the NY circuit and can\'t run them.  I will use him because of the 15-1 ML, but not key him.  The rail horse has a nice steady line and ran against the bias in the Calder race.  Expecting a solid race and nice trip from on or near the lead.  Use him also.  But the key will be Porto Bonheur.  This horse wants 6 furlongs, not 7 and is going to run a new top tomorrow.  I will bet her to win and box her in exactas with the 1 and 6.

Would like to bet her in the doubles but don\'t know what to do with the Vanderbilt.  How about a 6 horse race with five of them having run negative 4 or faster.  Fabulous Strike will run his negative 4, but with 123 and outside two other speed horses, that might not be enough.  I loved Fatal Bullet in the BC Sprint, but I would need 10-1 to try him on dirt and he won\'t be that price.  Go Go Shoot will need more time to get back near the negative 5.  Bennny the Bull looks like he has lost a step this year, but will get a good pace setup.  However, 5-2ish is not enough when I am pretty sure he is not as good as he used to be.  Then you get Kodiak Cowby who is under-rated if you ask me.  A 4 year old with three races of negative 4 or better?  I think 6 furlongs is one furlong short though and the trainer is talking about this being a prep for the September sprint race at Saratoga.  So, what to do?  Any ideas out there?

Oh, last thing is that I will do my usual part to keep Zenyatta\'s streak alive tomorrow.  i will put a bet on Life\'s Sweet tomorrow.  I think that Hollywood, being like dirt to a degree, was not her best surface.  At Santa Anita or Delmar, she might be able to be more competitive with Zenyatta.  It would also seem about time for Garret Gomez to remember that he is supposed to be one of the top two jockeys out there, with Ramon Dominguez the other, and start to win races.  The 57 workout at Delmar would seem to have her on edge.  Wish I was getting weight, but hoping Zenyatta gets her usual very wide run and maybe this time she loses.

Good luck

Michael D.

After the scratch of ABoy, Bullsbay looked pretty solid. An inside trip under 116 lbs was competitive going in, especially at 18-1. Too much Smooth Air to cash any tickets though. I thought that one would relax and finish. Did neither obviously.

In The Million, Gio Ponti and Einstein stood out going in, and GP became the play over the off going, even at the price. Stotsfold was a solid use for me underneath at 28-1. When I see Euros that fit the conditions well getting 1st lasix, I now move them up at least a point.

I am part of the Misery Loves Company Club after yesterday, so take my suggestion today for what it is worth.  I like your Porte Bonheur selection and will parlay with my best bet of the day, Fatal Bullet.  His comeback was awesome and effortless, and his price should be Ok.
