Steroids are legal drugs, they are (were) given to nearly all horses since they came on the scene.

Common and usual use of the legal steroids in horses does not give the same result as abuse of illegal steroids in human sports.  People still just don\'t seem able grasp this concept.

Eliminating common use of the legal steroids from the scene isn\'t going to change hardly anything (although the general public will be happy to attribute every horse not running to expectation to \"steroid removal\" )

Why do you think everyone is so eager to agree to jump on the \"eliminate legal steroids\" bandwagon?   Because they don\'t matter very much, yet you get tons of good PR.

Eliminating use of the legal steroids will decrease number of starts and widen spacing between races (horses will need more time off to recover), that\'s about it.  There won\'t be any influence on breakdown rates.

The high toe-grab restrictions are groundbreaking, will save lives and protect both horses and jockeys, and will prevent more tragic acute breakdowns and injuries than steroid control.

We ought to be publically cheering passage of that one, but nobody seems to realize how important that is.

Horses in the past commonly ran on way more drugs than they do nowadays.  And that goes back to the 1800\'s.  Right now is about the \"cleanest\" time in the sport due to testing capabilities.
