I would like to the effect of the wind to the performance of a horserace.

1. 6f race.
  a. headwind at the backstretch 7 knot
  b. tailwind at the backstretch 7 knot
2. 7f race.
  a. headwind at the backstretch 7 knot
  b. tailwind at the backstretch 7 knot

I suppose the headwind will delay the race by 0.3 second, and the tailwind will fasten the race by 0.2 second. How much am I wrong ?

Thanks in advance.

Even with the wind directly behind the runners or in their faces on the straightaways, the answer would depend on the configuration of the individual track-- it depends on the difference between the distances they are traveling on each straightaway, and stretch distance and turn size vary track to track. And no, I\'m not going to give you our wind formula.

TGJB,
How about a quick summary of how the wind affected the BC races. The fractions seemed to point to some wind blowing out there.

TGJB

There was wind of variable strength throughout the day at 9 o\'clock (imagine looking down at the track from above, with 12 being on top and 6 at the bottom). That means the wind was behind them early in the sprint, in their faces early in the 2 turn races.
