It\'s official NYRA will keep the franchise according to Gov.Spitzer, republican legislature must apppove.Of major interst will be how NYRA treats open traitors which called for their dismissal, especially Jerry(The Ego) Bailey and a certain group of horsemen that bailed on Charlie Hayward and co and openly critized them and called for their removal at the meetings in Albany and elsewhere.

Good News, Spitzer may not be the hack we feared.

So are we supposed to celebrate the continued decline of NY racing because the group that won may be less bad than some of the other groups bidding?

MO

One thing I am not clear on: Does NYRA continue to operate as a non-profit company? Anybody?

Fkach,

Very good point, the alternatives appeared to be disastrous. Being fair, it\'s difficult to see anyone turning NY racing or racing in general around.

Did NYRA have to relinquish their claim of track ownership?

Seemed to me that this claim was a pivotal issue that would have created a legal nightmare.

Nyra will relinquish claim to the property and turn the deeds over to state and gets a $130 million dollar State debt forgiven. NYRA also gets 75 Mill from the state, slot money and gets relief from the real estate taxes.Cash flow/capital improvement money etc should be a thing of the past. A franchise tax abatement is also being lobbied for. There are no excuses why NY racing should not be better from those standpoints.

All NY racing fans owe State Sen.Bill Larkin a nice call or e-mail for being instrumental and the voice of reason on NY racing while not looking to always rape the players, like his colleagues, when money shortfalls come about.

NYRA has not gotten squat and they do not figure to get a free rein anymore. They may get to run one, two or even three of the tracks, but their hands will be tied because Joe Bruno has the clout to make sure that some new players will be added into the mix. And this is best for horsemen, horseplayers and fans.

Barry,

Don\'t forget Sheldon Silver, equally powerful to Joe Bruno, who will get his appointee in there too.Spitzer, Silver and Bruno, nothing gets done in NY without these 3 agreeing.
