If you have not had a chance to see this race on video,it is worth a look. KentuckyDerby.com has all the preps on the site.
Great Hunters race was visually the best race of any 3YO.TG has him 4w/3w. His move in the far turn is Monarchos-esque(Florida Derby 01) This is the turn of foot that wins Derby\'s. It seems that very few, if any of this crop, have that explosive move from off the pace.
The problem is the race is TG slow,a 4. Beyer has it 101,Not factoring in the ground loss? This is within 2 points of Curlins top Beyer and 1 point of several others 102 BSR.
So Beyer has it as one of it\'s fastest 3yo races without factoring in ground loss.We KNOW GH lost alot of ground. TG has it very slow.
I\'m not saying the 4 is wrong BUT if it was, this horse looks completely different. If it was a 2,GH pairs his 2yo top, bounces in the BG and looks quite strong to go forward in the KD.
Can anyone look at the charts from SA 3/3 and tell me what their opinion of that race was? How did you sheet guys see the race. Thanks

Initially I thought the race was very impressive as well.  The charts though do show that being wide at SA that day was not a bad thing.  Tiago, who ran a non-threatening seventh in the R.B. Lewis, saved ground basically the whole race so you could even say the inside was deep.  We all know how well he looked in his next outing.

Sandreadis,

FYI, Rags also has Great Hunter much faster. His last two figs were equal to 1 @1/2 for the BG and 1 for the Lewis. Those figs are translated from Rags to TG.On Rags he has a bomb shot, on TG he\'s a toss.

In comparing all the derby horses, I found GH to be the the biggest disagreement between Beyer, Rags and TG.I agree with your visual observation and his big wide run was one of the better moves in all the preps.

There are strings here where the fig maker differences in the California circuit are discussed.
