Beyer downgraded the Whirlaway figure from 106 to 94 after the disappointing effort of several horses. Any thoughts about that figure here?

Just heard that Beyer changed Summer Doldrums Whirlaway figure from 107 to 94. What's worse is that, based on the figure, trainer Violette figured the horse would  automatically bounce anyway so be barely bothered to train him for the Gotham. Talk about your self-fulfilling prophecies. It would have been nice if he had shared this information with the bettors BEFORE the race.

Jerry, I don't know what figure you gave SD for the Gotham but since you gave a more realistic figure to the Whirlaway in the first place and you factor in SD's 3w-3w trip in the Gotham, I\'m guessing his TG figures for the 2 races will be pretty compatible – especially considering SD may have been a bit short due to Violettes's bonehead training move.

All figures earned by inside speed horses at the Aqu Inner track meet should be eyed with suspicion.Don\'t think SD bounced at all, he just didn\'t get the same kind of trip as previously. Also don\'t buy Violette\'s trainer excuse # 9( \"He didn\'t scope clean\")A careful look at the replay shows SD making game run thru the lane just missing second.

I don\'t think it was just Summer Doldrums effort that caused the figure downgrade. I\'m sure the Beyer guys also realized his big figure was earned while wiring the field on a golden rail. It was the degree of the figure dropoff and the fact that another horse out of the race also ran dismally.

For quite some time I\'ve noticed an increasing tendency (often by people who should know better) to treat Beyer Figures as fact.  They are not fact, they are opinion.  Changing the number (and by a whopping amount) after the fact is a clear indication of this.

Bally,

The major fig makers all use projection, it\'s inexact but they are the best available. It is also notworthy that fig makers do not include the race shape or track bias(when present) in which a fig was earned.

I think Mark Hopkins shows good common sense for having the second look and adjusting the fig. They all struggle from time to time with a race or a card and make a best effort.
