According to a Bloodhorse editorial, purses for 2006 were about 1.1 billion. Meanwhile, horses were sold at auction for about 1.2 billion. And as Ray Paulick points out, if you took slots out of the picture it would be even worse.

Yep, the boys in Kentucky have a healthy industry to celebrate.
