And Hero mud caulks/f and bends in back

Coin Sil........bends
High Lim.........bends
Flower..........bends
Greeley\'s ........bends

May they all come home safely!

I read where Giacomo lost a shoe pre derby and had his foot protected and was re-shod. I heard nothing about a bar. JB gets this info from Equibase, I assume.

Yeah, Giacomo wore spider bar shoes on both front feet. This was confirmed by Equibase. According to Equibase, Churchill Downs relayed the information to them and they, Equibase, passed it along to their customers, including us. Equibase reports shoe information tracks provide. But if  tracks don\'t collect and/or disseminate it to Equibase, this information does not get passed along nor displayed by us. There is no universal, uniform policy in terms of collecting and reporting shoe information. Individual tracks set their own policy in this regard.

TGAB,

Thanks Alan, can we assume that was first time bar on Giacomo?

miff

TGJB

No-- that\'s the point. It MAY be, but Equibase doesn\'t get the info everywhere-- we just called to ask and they didn\'t know. We\'ve been trying to get them to do a lot of things (like geldings), and slowly they are getting there. But a lot depends on whether the tracks get involved. At least it\'s better than when they didn\'t announce lasix some years ago.

I can\'t imagine any change more profound than Ist time BAR.It never ceases to amaze me how incompetent some services of this game are including DRF.

For the longest time I\'ve thought that the date of gelding should appear in past performances.  Or at least an indication of which race a horse first appeared as a gelding should be a definite part of a horse\'s history.
And that this type of information, which seems to basic and fundamental to me, isn\'t readily available to a player is the type of thing that drives me crazy about racing.

Reminds me of when one of my horses (a former 2yo Grade 1 placed colt)which I was part owner of, was listed by NYRA Saratoga program, DRF, et al, as a colt.

About 10 minutes to post last July, Durkin announces my colt is now a gelding.!!!!!

How about the management company never told the owners that they gelded him 30 days prior.

So don\'t think only betters get screwed with no information! Needless to say, a lot of owners parted ways with that company.

Equibase now reports Giacomo DID NOT wear  bar shoes in the Derby. The original bar shoe designation apparently triggered lots of questions not only from us but others as well. Equibase called trainer John Shirreffs for confirmation. Shirreffs told Equibase he put duct tape on Giacomo\'s feet for the walk over to the paddock--to protect his sore feet--but took the tape off before the race. The Churchill Downs identifyer saw something on his feet and assumed the \"bar shoes\" remained on during the race. Equibase subsequently reviewed the race, magnified  the image 300x, Giacomo\'s  feet specifically, and confirmed Shirreffs. Giacomo DID NOT run with bar shoes.

We\'ve changed the Kentucky Derby day sheets on the ROTW page to reflect this new information.
