If any of the Dutrow brunch, Bobby Frankel, Todd Pletcher, Scott Lake, Mike Mitchell, Alan Iwinski, Jeff Mullins, the Jerkens clan, Dougie O\'Neill, Raffy Bacerra, Mark Shuman, Kiaran McLaughlin, Jen Pedersen and a host of others, were doing what Nickie Zito has done, 4 high profile Derby contenders; the talk of white Mercedes, Steve Allday and super vets would be rampant on this board. But oddly enough, Nickie Z gets a pass. Consumate horsemanship? Hmmm I wonder....

May they all come home safely!

I was just thinking, wow, if NZ had what those other guys had then he\'d REALLY be tough to beat.  ahem

How does H. Allen Jerkens end up with that bunch?

When you are dealing with claiming trainers. it\'s easy to see who moves them up because horses are moving in and out of their barns, and you see a pattern of figures changing when they do. With Frankel it was easy because his entire barn of older horses moved up 3-4 points at the same time (a statistical impossibility) in the Summer of 03. After a while you isolate the move-up trainers and sometimes find the common thread (in many cases Allday), and then look to see who else is using him (Pletcher, for example, Byrne years ago).

Don\'t know who Zito\'s vet is. I believe he was using Harthill in Kentucky in the past, but I\'m not sure. I have commented here before that he has gotten some extraordinary move-ups in Kentucky, don\'t know if that has been extended geographically.

CH-- notice you say you started winning nine years ago, which you attribute to changed betting strategy. Out of curiosity, when did you start using TG?

HP-- \"Some Guy Somewhere\" is pretty funny.
