i defend trainers more than most on boards like these, but the dickinson positive is a killer. caught for flunixin, and drug that is advertised to \"jump start recovery and maximize performance.\" i\'m losing confidence.

May they all come home safely!

Michael, you\'re not the only one defending him, his \"consequences\" didn\'t even amount to a slap on the wrist.  raz

Not directly relevant, but back when I worked with Michael on Da Hoss, the Prestons questioned the horse\'s unbelievably huge vet bills. Michaels response-- coming from England, where they allowed nothing, he had been \"like a girl getting out of Catholic school\".

JB, I think it might be directly relevant if we knew all the intervening variables.  I love the expression, \"a girl getting out of Catholic school.\" There\'s no telling what \"seductions\" may have occured in either case.  raz

If you are asking me whether I have information or belief that MD was moving Da Hoss up, the answer is no to both. And yeah, Michael had his moments, although he was one major pain in the butt to work with.

But look, Friedman comes across as unfunny on the board, and he used to be funny on occasion too, in a Bob and Ray (reference) kind of way.

Some years ago, Len and I used to play in a regular 2 on 2 basketball game after the track, against Andy Berg (who went on to make the sheets for trotters), and an Asian kid who hadn\'t played much ball. The first few times we killed them, then the games got closer.

Len: The Chinese kid is getting better.

Andy: He\'s Japanese.

Len: See?

Short and sweet, 3 syllables short of a haiku.  Now, before anybody calls the PC police, no one was ever less a racist than Friedman-- he put his ass on the line in the South in the sixties.

It\'s a JOKE.

JB,

\"If you are asking me whether I have information or belief that MD was moving Da Hoss up, the answer is no to both. And yeah, Michael had his moments, although he was one major pain in the butt to work with.\"

No, I wasn\'t. I worded that poorly.

JB, I\'ve never seen you, but having spent some time with LF, basketball would have been one of my last guesses.  Is any of this on film?  In the Archives?

\"no one was ever less a racist than Friedman-- he put his ass on the line in the South in the sixties.\"

Compliments about one\'s character seldom get any better than this.  To hear it from a competitor makes it all the more so.

Just speaking as an interested party here, I give you a lot of credit for making such a statement.  In the years I\'ve been associated with,or posting on, both boards( 8-10yrs?)there have been far too few of these(on both boards).

That little basketball vignette was very adeptly put. I, personally, draw much more entertainment value here, and there, from these stories of those \"developemental\" years which give glimpses of the \"man\" behind the numbers.  Based on the reactions from many posters following the recent telling of the robbery saga, I think many others do, too.

Conversely, I am most put off by the self-serving \"ego-spasms\" that appear.  Again, I suspect from reading the comments of other posters on both boards, that others are just as put off.  Thanks again, raz

From the article on the Flunixin site:
DRUG TESTING

Detection Time Information: Flunixin\'s pharmacological effects are not thought of as lasting longer than 24 hours after a clinical dose, and they may last slightly less, particularly after an IV dose. Flunixin clears the blood and urine rapidly (24-48 hours) if detection is less sensitive, but if detection is highly sensitive, flunixin can be detected in urine for up to 2 weeks after a course of therapy. Canadian and Australian researchers report a detection time of 3 days in horses, while 2 days is likely a more consistent figure in the United States. There is no ARCI-recommended plasma-level threshold or tolerance level for flunixin, but California officially permits a level of up to 1.0 mcg/ml in the blood, while Pennsylvania permits a level of up to 0.1 mcg/ml.

How bad is this...the company site also gives the trainers info on how long it stays in their system for Drug Testing protection. Anybody who is that naieve (sp?) to think that all the vets dont ask for this info when they juice \'em up?

think i can sue dickinson for the 10g i lost when da hoss beat hawksley hill by a nose? i have always blamed solis for the loss (and credited velazquez for the win), maybe it was something else?

Razzle, Razzle.

Don\'t know how long you\'ve been coming to THIS board, but aside from the stories,I have complimented Friedman before on those occasions when he deserved it, like for winning a handicapping contest, or for putting up a good betting analysis of a race in advance, and I have given him (them) credit on other occasions when they deserved it, like for Jake\'s Hot Wells claim, etc.

I defy you to find instances of the equivalent coming this way. And your backhand slap, which by its very nature contains a value judgement, was way out of line, even independent of the context (my compliment), which made it ridiculous.

If you want to know about \"ego spasms\", do a search of any calendar month on the Rag board, and a count of the personal attacks on me.

And I\'ll just leave it there.
