So I got my copy of the Thoroughbred Times today, and saw the part where \"Ragozin looks at the Triple Crown Preps\", and felt compelled to send the TT the following e-mail:

\"Gentlemen-- I publish the Thoro-Graph sheets, and am Len Ragozin\'s competition. But give me a break, will you guys-- you continue to publish your little box saying he is the \"father of speed figures\", when he is nothing of the kind. If you watch the DVD from the DRF Expo last year, you will hear me discuss (with Len Friedman of Ragozin\'s office sitting right there on the panel), a book called \"Consistent Handicapping Profits\", by E.W. Donaldson, which was first published in 1933 (when Ragozin was 7), and which went to 15 printings. The book shows you in great detail how to make your own figures, using ground loss, and discusses weight and other factors. My copy (which I displayed at the Expo, second edition, 1936), also has an ad in the back for order-by-mail, ready-to-use speed figures as well-- figures that were used by the general public.

You guys are journalists. If you research it for 15 minutes you will find out that Ragozin\'s self aggrandizement notwithstanding, there were LOTS of guys making figures, DECADES before Ragozin came on the scene, and what you are doing is a slap in the face to all of them. Do your homework, and get it right. A correction would be nice, but I\'m not holding my breath\".

Beyond the false claim, I had some other interest in the article as well. The figures for several prep winners were given out (once again dramatically cheapening the value of the data-- buy and manage your million dollar Derby horse for free!), but you get what you pay for. The relationship of the numbers they gave Scipion, Closing Argument and Sort It Out is off, by quite a bit.

They were about 35 years behind that guy.

Whatever they spent on that Forest Wildcat was too much. What kind of advisement is it to say \"That Forest Wildcat showed early foot...lets buy him\"?

1:39 Southwest? I only tuned in for that one race, but that seems a bit slow. I\'ve rarely seen a horse so full of energy AFTER a race as Greater Good. It was interesting the way he continued to bound about. He was like a kid just getting out to play. I know Lauren Stitch doesn\'t like his pedigree, but I think he\'s got a sneaky pedigree. That General Assembly part could have jumped up here. What a Summer won the Black Eyed Susan and the Fall Highweight TWICE...lol

I want no part of a Phone Trick going 10 fl.

I\'m not saying hes my Derby horse at all. I don\'t think he\'s been particularly fast. But he\'s got more potential to me than some of those with much fancier and more fashionable pedigrees.

P.S. I went with your Munificence. The bear out at the end said. \"Thats all folks\", but to Greater\'s credit he handled the looming impediment with ease. I\'m having a very shaky three year old handicapping year to this point, so anything I say is highly suspect...lol

One of less than 10 women entered, & the 3rd place finisher (out of 293) in the brisbet contest yesterday, that\'s who, with an impressive total of $108.20, which included the $47 winner of the feature at Aqu & 3 other winners. The format is $2 w/p on 7 races, all mandatory. In addition to her share of the prize money from yesterday, the showing qualified her for an Aug 6 contest they\'re calling the $100k Handicapping Open.

After more than 30 yrs of marriage, I don\'t think anyone can fault me for saying that her success yesterday was \"sheets connected.\" Congratulations Maddy!

Class on the dam side-- congratulations Mrs. Mall.
