I don\'t remember the last time I seen one of these super multi-million dollar horses actually run, as most end up overseas.  Today was the unveiling of Fusaichi Samurai. The 2 yr old son of Fusaichi Pegasus out of a Storm Cat mare toyed with maidens under a hand ride in 22 2/5,  :44 3/5,  1:08 4/5,  1:15 2/5 in wire to wire fashion. Bally\'s had him at only 15-1 before the race.  The breeding doesn\'t scream out 1 1/4, but the with speed laden pedigree being more prominent on the 1st Saturday in May, who knows....

i heard a few bets in one day smashed his derby odds from over 200-1 to 15-1. don\'t know what to think of the pedigree. herbager three generations back, but speed, speed, speed since then on bottom.  you are correct though, the mr prospector speed line (maybe combined with a bit of northern dancer blood) has been golden recently in the derby. a lot of really fast ones lining up early this year, will be interesting to  see how fast they go when they stretch out.

I\'ll defer to TGraph, but on first blush that race looks fast. (I think in the next race Red Warrior in a NW1X ran faster though, (3yr old)) I\'m not enamored with 2x3 to Mr. Prospector, but for what its worth I didn\'t like his dad either. Theres lots of speed in that pedigree. Storm Cat, Danzig. I just stated in a post that pedigree matters less each year, we\'ll see how far his heart and modern training takes him. I\'m suspecting 15-1 at this point is not good value in the future book. He must look the part for 4.5 million, but I think that was a debatable value judgement also. Lets see if he can look as impressive around two turns. At that point 15-1 would be more reasonable. I\'m dubious.

I think 15-1 on ANY horse at this time, is a price I wouldn\'t take.  Declan\'s Moon, Fusaichi Samurai or anyone.  Just too hard to call now, unless you are getting 50-1 plus.

Betting winter book favorites or short prices has been miserable since I don\'t know when.

Silver Charm

I agree the price is unbettable. Winter Book Wagering in an of itself is unbettable, unless you are fishing around at 50-1 or higher. The \"I told ya so\" angle seems to have more value than the ticket itself.

One thing this kind of conversation does signal is its almost that time of year again. And while I have been undergoing this brief freshening, (I had my first two furlong breeze this morning--got a 6 on the Ragozin Sheets they say..including ground loss) I\'m going to come out of the gate like an absolute MONSTER)

jim,
i started a string on pedigreequery.com about FuSam. if you are interested, take a look. a lot of the responses over there come from owners and breeders (seems like a lot of people think FuPeg was overrated).
