Gun Runner's style

I like that he is forwardly focused.  Even when the jock takes a hold, he is very eager and keeps a good position and doesn\'t have to go wide on the turn. He\'s game in a duel in the stretch,  but once he gets the lead I have some questions: does he think the race is over when he pulls away (20 Feb.) and lose focus? or as in 26Mar,go to left lead when he\'s got it won?  Is he running low figs because he\'s only doing what it takes to win?  Too bad his last race was over at the 1/8 pole and we\'ll have to wait for the KD to find out.  Thoughts?

Do not know his LA Derby figure, but from what I am reading it is probably slow (relative to others) going in to the KD.  Wish he would race again in three weeks with the hope that he would move closer figure-wise.  Although some have done it, tough to get that big jump for the win in the KD, in particular with only five lifetime races.

Looked like Geroux was really getting after Gun Runner in the stretch in both races.
I don\'t know that he could\'ve gone any faster.

I agree. This horse will get better. He probably has a 2-3 point jump waiting inside him and soon. I would wait for the Derby. They know he can run long that\'s why they have never asked him to sprint and run early. This is a really nice horse. Be patient and treat him like one. He will reward you...

Silver:

Though not as accomplished as GR, Asmussen\'s coupled Tapit entry in the Rebel
looked the same way: Seven or eight lifetime starts between them, all starts
at one mile or over.

Yes this means they were pointed to longer events and now have plenty of
foundation, but could it also mean that these colts are absolutely devoid of
any speed?

Gun Runner positives: 3/4 lifetime (a good pattern, no?), had a win at CD (Mo
Trouble\'s two CD stakes races as a 2YO much more impressive), has a defined running style.

Gun Runner negatives: will come in as what?, eighth or ninth fastest TG wise?
And my opinion, he was beating slower overrated foes in both FG races.
Forevamo, second in the Risen Star, is eligible for NW2LT. Tom\'s Ready, second
in the La Derby, also eligible for NW2LT, will be this year\'s Dallas Stewart
suck up special.

Silver, I think its a California colt this year. I hope its not Nyquist. I am
going all ROTW on the Derby this year (sorry Rick B)... the obvious favorites,
who will be meeting in what looks to be a very short (field wise) Fla Derby,
must walk the plank.

For GR to go in 8th or 9th fastest a lot of horses will have to break down between now and the Derby.

JB,

Did you make a fig for Lani? If so, who\'s faster GR or Lani? Not necessary to divulge figs.

Haven\'t done it yet but suspect it will be close.

Not sure where in anything I said it meant he was a Derby play. I just said he was a good horse who was only going to get better. Lots of good horses ran in the Derby who didn\'t win. Summer Bird, Will Take Charge. And they did some good things later.
