So if my math is correct.
6.6 percent chance after The Breeders Cup Juv.
0 percent ofter Dec 31 st.
Attention trainers.Try running your 2 year olds rather than collecting
your day money if you want win the roses.
Thank You All
and a good night

Ask the Experts / Question came up at the bar tonight?

Has any 2 year old made there first start of there career  after the Breeders Cup Juv, has been run and won the KY DERBY?
My question is that we always look at Dec 31 st as the last date that a horse makes its first start of its career to win the Derby?
My gut tells me its like Nov 1 st. of there 2 year old year?
appreciate your answers and opinions.

He is coming into the derby on a  0 2 X ?
If he is ,Does that mean he is a play or a toss?

Thank You

IMHO,

I really doubt that Upstart will break through to a new top for the rest of his career. He just seems to follow a pattern of 2 year olds running huge figs.In his Case a 0.When a horse like Barbaro ran a 2 year old top at the 5 range 10 years ago. That was consider a big Fig.Now Upstart Daredevil and others running a 0.at age 2.I just feel from learning how horses have developed over the last 25 years from the age of 2 to 3.Huge 2 year old figs have a lasting effect on such horse and shorten there racing careers.

My take is this.I would include daredevil as well. Those huge efforts as a 2 year old with no foundation to support those efforts.Have lead to the Retirement Of Materiality and Carpe Diem. Both ran huge figs as a 2 year old early 3 year old in the case of Materiality. The lack of progression thru conditions or building up those points to make the derby is cutting the racing careers short.Sad but true

If your looking for a horse to carry 109 pounds it would have  be a 3 year old aka Ready for Rye, Daredevil or Majestic Affair or a Kentuckian??????????????
One of the 3 year olds to do it was Honour and Glory for Lukas or Pletcher!!!!!!

If the five top horses enter.
1.Shared Blief-128 pounds
2.Bayern-126 pounds
3.Moreno-123 Pounds
4.Honor Code=123 Pounds
5.Private Zone=123 Pounds
6.Salutos Amigos-123 Pounds
7.Valid-120 Pounds

Don\'t know if these are in same class as Dude, guess it\'s debatable. 2 of my favs

Funny Cide: not in HOF
38 starts won 11 races (Derby, Preakness), second six times and third eight times;
earnings $3,529,412.

Da Hoss: not in HOF
20 starts, won 12 races (2 x BC) second 5 times and third twice.
earnings $1,931,558.
One of only six horses to win two Breeders\' Cup races
Only gelding to win two Breeders\' Cup races
Only horse to win two Breeders\' Cup races in non-consecutive years
World record for a 2 year old going 6 furlongs (1:07:1/5 )

this was posted on another board and Lava Man was brought up by Jerry.
Out of these 4 geldings do you think all 4 should be in?The last one I can think of in my time is Best Pal.Now Moreno is a gelding whose resume is building fast.I dont know what his resume will look when its done.Just really love the quality responses from hard core lovers of this sport.Peace.Let the discussion contine

AND A BREEDERS CUP RECORD IN 3 STARTS OF 0 WINS 1 2ND AND 2 OFF THE BOARD FINISHES
DOES THIS LOOK LIKE A HALL OF FAME RESUME?
MY OPINION IS NO.JERRY WHAT DO YOU THINK?
HOW does he stack up against other geldings of the modern era.
