I believe Allday\'s assistant is a guy named Gerrity (sp?).  I usually see him in Allday\'s company though that doesn\'t mean he doesn\'t treat horses while Allday\'s away.  I do know for a fact that Allday has flown out to California on a couple of occasions this winter to treat Frankel (Lundy\'s Liability), Pletcher (name escapes me) and Dutrow (Love Of Money) horses.

I know Allday frequently flies out to \"treat\" client\'s horses.  He has done that this winter with Frankel and Pletcher horses running in California.  My guess is with that many running in MD, he flew up on Friday and spent the weekend.

White Mercedes is vet extraordinaire Steve Allday, or the \"Magic Man\" as he is referred to in some circles.  He is the vet for a lot of high profile outfits whose stock share a few telling characteristics including big jump-ups, less volatile form cycles (i.e. horses that don\'t bounce) the ability to \"re-break\" when asked in the last 1/8 mile, etc.

Current clients include Pletcher, Frankel, Dutrow, Romans, Margolis. Past clients included Pat (I took pieces of crap like Favorite Trick and Countess Diana and turned them into multiple GRI stakes winners) Byrne.

Allday has been Dutrow\'s vet for some time.  As I understand it, Frankel hooked Doc up with  Dutrow and he treats all the Dutrow horses.

I have no idea who deputizes for Allday in NY during the inner track meet as he spends most of his time at Palm Meadows where he\'s got quite a full book (Dutrow, Frankel, Pletcher, Romans, Margolis (though he\'s actually stabled at GP) Hough, etc.

My second favorite was Peter Ferriola.

I use to hang out right by the AQU paddock and watch for Ferriola\'s assistants (mostly his kid and his son\'s girlfriend who was quite a looker in a cheap Queens type of way) to see if they were betting or not.  One Saturday, last race of the day Ferriola\'s running a horse named Damian\'s Groom.  He had just claimed him from a friend of mine and I knew for a fact the horse was a complete cripple.  Anyway, Ferriola and his crew leave the paddock after saddling and I\'m standing there within earshot.  Ferriola hands five hundred to one of his henchmen and tells him to go bet the horse.  The guy responds \"Pete, you gotta be kidding.  This horse aint won in 2 years.\"  \"Just watch,\" Ferriola responds.  I bet my $100 at 8-5 (a big bet for me at the time).  You can guess the rest.  Damian breaks slow, circles the field and wins by a city block.  Wish I\'d been using TG at the time.  I\'d love to know how much he moved up that horse.

I\'ve been a regular NYRA player for 30 years now, and bet I follow the drug trainers more closely than almost anyone.  My perception is that over the past 6 months or so, the number of drug trainers have stayed the same but the length of their \"ON\" cycles has decreased.  Schettino won at a ridiculous rate at SAR and now can\'t sniff the winner\'s circle.  Everything Levine ran at the end of the AQU meet jumped before he cooled off heading into the INN (he\'s getting hot again).  Martin (before he got busted) was winning off the claim like he did last year at this time but only for IEAH.  Even Labo had a streak last year where he lost with 7 or 8 straight claims.  What makes this such a bitch is thats there\'s no way to tell from the PP\'s who is on and who isn\'t.  I think there\'s a general perception that if you \"use\" only sporadically they\'ll leave you alone.  Or at least that\'s the way was before the feds got involved.

I miss the black and pink of OSB.  No guessing at trainer intent there...

Take a look at the IEAH website.  It seems they have \"sold or retired\" a significant # of horses (for a stable of their size) since Martin got busted.

The other Host is a Chilean bred in the barn of Pletcher.  They\'re both turf stakes horses stabled at Palm Meadows.  I can\'t wait until they end up in the same race.  Very likely to happen within the next few weeks at GP.

It was a long hard 3 days but kudos to my teammates and TG for making this possible.  After a wild ride, we finished up with two tickets in the top ten.  Oh what might have been if either Marwood or Zakocity won their photos...

I understand from an unimpeachable source that the FEDS have an undercover agent on the NYRA backstretch for the past 9 months.  Further this source tells me that there will be more arrests next week.  Household names...

John T:

I take you at your word, but Magic Man\'s work with Dream Weaver is news to me.  I had heard of a few new clients he picked up this winter  but wasn\'t aware Saratoga County was now under his care.

The fact that Youbet doesn\'t support ANY browsers other than Internet Explorer is a major pain in the a**.  I\'ve encountered so many problems with IE (security, stability (a BIG issue when using Youbet),speed, etc.) that I\'m considering dropping Youbet because it doesn\'t support alternative browsers.

Happy Holidays All,

Ask the Experts / No Contest
December 21, 2004, 02:24:27 PM
Titrainer of the year is Steve Allday. To suggest it\'s even a contest is to insult Allday\'s 2004 body of work (Ghostzapper, Midas Eyes, Peace Rules, Roses In May, St. Liam, Ashado, Speightstown, etc.)

I hear around the backstretch they refer to him as \"The Magic Man\" as in \"the magic man is coming around my barn later to make (fill in the blank) feel good.\"
