Ask the Experts / Re: Friday Longshots
November 02, 2017, 09:45:50 PM
Two on Friday\'s undercard:

R2:   Lazzam shows two competitive numbers at Dmr at the condition, and
paired his dirt top last time.

R10:  Paquita Coqueta is quick enough to get over by the first turn, and
her career top last December indicates fondness for the course,

Ask the Experts / BC Longshots
November 01, 2017, 08:19:54 PM
I\'d like to start this thread to stimulate opinion from my learned TG cohorts.

Catching one longshot in either a vertical or horizontal wager can produce a
profit over the two day BC festival.

I propose Mr. Roary in the Mile...this 4YO gelding has moved to a new level...
from a mile top of 4-1/2 at three, he jumped to a 3 at 1 1/8 miles fading thru
the stretch of the Eddie Read(at Del Mar)...then, sprinting down the hill at SA, he uncharacteristically rallied late to snatch the Eddie D, pairing his new top.

Running through all his listed works in Equibase, his turf drill around dogs on
10/22 superficially looks plenty sharp...from the 3-hole on Saturday, he might
snatch a second or third if he can move to a 1 while saving ground at his best
distance...he\'ll be worth another look after the BC should he falter.

F-Troop strikes again...Shamrocked was the responsible party for driving Shoot the
Gap outward two to three paths...Archival lugged in one path only and was not
responsible for the crowding.

Ask the Experts / Post-BC Horses To Watch
November 08, 2016, 11:30:44 AM
Without seeing Jerry\'s BC numbers, I\'ll pay attention to these coming back:

Lull went out too fast and held well.
Forever Unbridled stays sharp...check the video of the Beldame.
American Gal had a lot thrown at her in a small window...give her time.
Paulassilverlining has a big back number and may circle.
Pure Sensation held well from a terrible post.
Mind Your Biscuits solid third from the rail AND BTL(video) rail in the Gallant Bob.
Ring Weekend bad trip, out of key race two back.
Keen Ice prepped off a long layoff, has a right to go forward off BC.

Ask the Experts / Re: BC BOMBS, ANYBODY?
October 29, 2016, 10:03:10 AM
I like it, I like it...\'yielding\' turf will often mask form moving to \'fast\'.

In regard to Finest City, she backed up her 6f move with a best of 58 at 4f\'s...
she can finish.

Ask the Experts / BC BOMBS, ANYBODY?
October 28, 2016, 11:39:26 PM
F&M Sprint...Finest City...last two on turf after showing forward dirt form...major
improvement in turf number to Avenge in last start while making two runs...if she is
better on dirt, a three point dirt top would make her an interesting vertical key...
I like the way Kruljac has managed this filly...the BOM 10/15 may be another plus.

Ask the Experts / Re: GGF OFF TURF 1OTH & 12TH
June 12, 2016, 06:06:17 PM
This is a black eye for GGF...let\'s see how they spin this...the last day of the
meet?...usually the line has something to do with sprinklers...I want to hear what
changed between yesterday and today or from the form-full 8th race on turf today to the 10th.

Imperative most likely to run close to a \'2\'...expect Hoppertunity was let down
by Baffert off of his last two efforts and used the San Pasqual as a prep...agree
that the race collapsed...Hoppertunity becomes a great bet down the road.

Ask the Experts / Issue with training CC
January 11, 2016, 11:12:14 AM
Not satisfied with with his last 7F drill, Espinoza suggested blinkers for CC\'s
final work a week prior to the San Pasqual...1:10 and change, gallop out in 1:22
and change...about three paths off the rail...this was faster than recent times
recorded by stakes horses.

Charlie Whittingham must have been rolling over in his grave...no way trainers like
Peter Eurton or the late Eddie Gregson would have max-stressed the horse a week prior...they would have backed off at least two weeks out...Baffert would have recorded several fast drills, the final drill not out of line with the foundation.

CC arguably came back in a week off a negative number effort off a long layoff...
let\'s hope he recovers from the stress and goes forward with spacing.

Ask the Experts / Re: DAYTONA ROTW Attempt
December 25, 2015, 05:42:22 PM
40,000 people(perhaps) and a strong contingent at \"living room downs\"...why not ten
races and two P-5\'s plus another P-4 in the middle?

Three 2YO races out of the first five plus a cavalry charge in the Daytona...SA\'s
preferred outcome would be an opening day P-6 carryover...but to maximize handle on
big days they should expand the menu.

Caution suggested early in the card, and in general early in the meet.

Will add Mr. Brightside to my Mathis Brothers Mile spread...Gallagher is a patient
developer.

R6:   Om does not have a pace advantage according to TG...loses a point for weight...
spread to Perfectly Majestic, Crittenden, Soul Driver, Om, and best value
Fueled By Bourbon(it\'s Miller and a pace change).
R7    Hot City Girl is the now horse, Cavorting has numbers, both acclimated.
R8    Run Happy ships with a trainer change and no Maria for naps...will root against
but must use with the spacing, drills, and figs...big class drop...the two
McLaughlin\'s have upside and both worked at SA.
R9    Hunt was dead last at the top of the shorter stretch at Del Mar...Second Summer
also ran well despite trouble...distance and weight should suit both.
P-4   5 X 2 X 3 X 2, or $30 @ 50 cents.

Ask the Experts / Re: Turf vs Dirt
November 30, 2015, 12:20:00 PM
Prefer long meets with consistent surfaces, dirt or turf...like the direction taken
at Woodbine...Tapeta will be installed next season...basically the same surface no
matter the weather...very safe...kinder to grass horses than dirt...helps with
field size,

The first few weeks of a new meet can be a crapshoot as horses transfer form to new
surfaces.

Del Mar turf was good, but didn\'t a profound speed bias show up on dirt?

Speaking of Del Mar, prices are too high, catering is out of touch, the annoying paddock commentator MUST be eliminated, and the wagering program needs a second P-4.
Add a third P-4 and a second P-5 with ten or more races...many times the Del Mar
card is front loaded with 2YO\'s and MSW\'s with first time starters.

R4   3YO Paid Admission just paired his fast dirt top...will son of Candy Ride take
     to the turf?...like the spacing.
R6   O\'Brien defies all the rules...Shogun, blinks on, gets lasix and a post...Sky
Marshall, well handled, has more speed to offer.
R8   Noseda capable of producing a BC top...second time lasix...toss Nemoralia\'s
last and note the trouble line Sep 10 in a field of 19.
R10  Zambian Dream at 30-1?...G1 placed at 1 1/2 miles on turf.
